Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler: The Complete Luxury Stay Guide

Four Seasons Resort Whistler is one of the top-rated luxury resorts in Canada and was named the #1 Resort in Canada by Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025. Located in the Upper Village at the base of Whistler Blackcomb, Four Seasons Whistler is a true year-round mountain retreat, not just a ski hotel.

With 288 rooms, suites, and private residences, the resort offers some of the most spacious accommodations in Whistler. Guests also enjoy an award-winning spa recognized as Canada’s Best Resort Spa by Travel + Leisure in both 2024 and 2025, along with four distinct dining venues, including SIDECUT Steakhouse, Braidwood Tavern, Braidwood Café, and The Library by The Macallan. The property features a year-round heated outdoor pool, three whirlpools, and a cedar sauna, along with ski concierge service at the base of the Blackcomb gondola and a complimentary house car for easy access to Whistler Village.

This guide covers everything from room categories and suites to dining, spa experiences, ski logistics, summer programming, family offerings, and how Four Seasons Whistler compares to Fairmont Chateau Whistler, as well as Preferred Partner benefits available through Ourisman Travel. It reflects both a recent firsthand stay at the property and nearly 20 years of experience in luxury travel advising, with a focus on curated, on-the-ground insight at the world’s top resorts.

Quick Take: Is Four Seasons Whistler Right for You?

Location: The Upper Village and Access to Whistler Blackcomb

Four Seasons Resort Whistler is located in the Upper Village, a quieter and more residential enclave at the base of Whistler Blackcomb. This positioning is one of its defining characteristics and is often misunderstood by first-time visitors.

The resort is not ski-in/ski-out, but the experience is designed to make accessing the slopes effortless. Most guests are on the slopes within 5 to 10 minutes thanks to complimentary transportation, a short walk to the Blackcomb gondola, and ski concierge services.

A resort map is particularly helpful for understanding the property’s layout and how it connects to the Upper Village and ski concierge, as it is not always provided at check-in but is useful for planning your time on the property.

The Upper Village Setting

The Upper Village feels more peaceful than Whistler Village, with forest surroundings, golf course views, and a more residential atmosphere. It is about a 10 to 15-minute walk into the main village, depending on pace and season.

This location is best suited for travelers who value space, quiet, and a resort environment over immediate access to nightlife and pedestrian density.

Getting to the Slopes

Guests have access to a complimentary house car and seasonal shuttle service that runs between the resort, the village, and lift access points. In winter, a dedicated ski concierge at the base of the Blackcomb gondola manages equipment storage and logistics so guests do not need to carry gear. Below is the Whistler ski route map, which helps visualize the layout of the resort, village, and lift access points for easier planning throughout your stay.

Most travelers fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR), followed by a two-hour drive along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. The route is widely considered one of the most scenic drives in North America, passing lake views, mountain corridors, and forested valleys. Private transfers, rental cars, and helicopter arrivals are commonly arranged through our Hotel Plus service.

Arrival Experience

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front desk and escorted up to our room, where we received a quick room tour while our bags were delivered separately.

We received a generous display of welcome amenities in the room, including a bottle of red wine from SIDECUT, a meat-and-cheese board, gummy candies presented in a wooden Four Seasons gondola, and a personal welcome letter. On the second day, we were surprised by an additional amenity: homemade seeded bread.

We didn’t have a dedicated point of contact during the stay, but communication was very easy through the Four Seasons app (via the in-room iPad or on our phones) and the in-room phone when needed. Requests were typically answered within about five minutes.

Whistler as a Destination

Whistler is one of North America’s most iconic mountain destinations, located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, just two hours north of Vancouver via the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Originally a ski town that rose to global prominence after hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, it has evolved into a true year-round alpine destination where outdoor adventure and elevated dining coexist.

In winter, Whistler Blackcomb becomes the largest ski resort in North America, drawing skiers and snowboarders from around the world for its vast terrain, reliable snow conditions, and vibrant après-ski culture. In summer, the landscape transforms into a hub for hiking, mountain biking, glacier-fed lake exploration, and outdoor wellness experiences framed by dramatic alpine scenery.

Beyond the mountains, Whistler Village offers a walkable collection of restaurants, boutiques, and cafes, while the Upper Village provides a quieter, more residential atmosphere surrounded by forest and golf course views.

For travelers, Whistler is not just a ski trip or a summer getaway. It is a destination that shifts with the seasons, rewarding return visits and different travel styles throughout the year.

Rooms, Suites, and Residences at Four Seasons Whistler

Four Seasons Whistler offers 288 accommodations ranging from oversized guest rooms to multi-bedroom residences and townhomes. One of the defining features of the property is the sense of space, as even entry-level rooms are larger than many standard luxury hotel categories in Whistler. The rooms were last refurbished in 2020, while the residences were thoughtfully renovated in 2022, giving the entire portfolio a refreshed, contemporary alpine feel while maintaining its residential character. It is also worth noting that the bedding configuration throughout the resort is intentionally streamlined, with king beds as the standard in guest rooms and suites rather than double queen beds, reinforcing the focus on spacious, high-comfort layouts.

We stayed in Executive Deluxe Suite #545, which featured a king bedroom, a separate living room, two bathrooms, and two closets. The layout felt residential in scale, with a gas fireplace that could be lit at the touch of a button and generous natural light throughout.

The website also offers 360-degree room tours, which is a helpful feature for understanding exactly what each room category looks like before booking.

It’s also worth noting that all in-room bathroom amenities are from a partnership with Grown Alchemist, which adds a nice, elevated touch to everyday essentials.

Guest Rooms

Guest rooms are designed with warm wood tones, alpine textures, and gas fireplaces that create a year-round atmosphere. Many include balconies with mountain or forest views. Even the entry-level categories feel significantly more spacious than typical Whistler accommodations.

Suites & Specialty Suites

Suites at Four Seasons Whistler are where the property begins to feel especially residential. We toured several categories, including a Deluxe Suite and the Summit Suite.

The Deluxe Suite offered a comfortable one-bedroom layout with a separate living area, ideal for couples or small families wanting extra space. The Summit Suite, by contrast, felt like a true showpiece residence with a full kitchen, dining area, and expansive mountain views through floor-to-ceiling windows, designed for entertaining and longer stays.

Across suite categories, guests benefit from additional living space, fireplaces, and, in many cases, kitchen facilities.

Private Residences

The private residences feel closer to luxury alpine homes than traditional hotel rooms. We toured the Four-Bedroom Den Residence, which accommodates up to 11 guests and offers a full kitchen, multiple living spaces, and hotel-level service throughout the stay. These are especially strong for multigenerational families or group ski trips where privacy and shared space are both important.

The Spa at Four Seasons Whistler: Canada’s Best Resort Spa

The recently reimagined spa at Four Seasons Whistler was named Canada’s Best Resort Spa by Travel + Leisure in both 2024 and 2025, and it is one of the defining reasons guests choose this property.

The experience is rooted in both place and wellness philosophy, including a meaningful partnership with Sḵwálwen Botanicals, an Indigenous female-founded skincare line that draws on Squamish plant knowledge and traditional wellness practices.

The spa features eucalyptus steam rooms, 13 treatment rooms, a cedar sauna, and the Ursa Lounge, designed as a quiet, reflective space inspired by the night sky above the Coast Mountains with twinkling lights.

Signature treatments include post-ski recovery massages and immersive rituals that incorporate local botanicals. The spa is not an add-on amenity but a central part of the resort experience. You can view the full spa menu with pricing here.

Dining at Four Seasons Whistler

Dining at Four Seasons Whistler is designed to feel varied and experience-driven, with each venue offering a distinct rhythm depending on the time of day. The resort has four core dining outlets: SIDECUT Steakhouse, Braidwood Tavern, Braidwood Café, and The Library by The Macallan. In addition, seasonal programming and rotating menus ensure there is always something new to experience throughout the year.

One of the most memorable elements of the bar program is the Memoir cocktail menu, an immersive, multisensory experience centered on storytelling and memory. Each cocktail is crafted to evoke a specific moment or feeling, layering aroma, texture, and presentation in a way that feels far more experiential than a traditional cocktail list. It is best enjoyed before dinner or as a late evening wind-down after returning from the village. We personally enjoyed the “pajamas ‘til noon” cocktail, served on a “cloud”.

Another nice touch at the resort is the complimentary daily wine tasting held in the main dining area each afternoon. It is an easy way to unwind before dinner and sample local and regional wines during your stay.

SIDECUT Steakhouse

SIDECUT Steakhouse is the resort’s signature dining experience and the most refined dinner option on property. The seasonal four-course prix fixe menu offers strong value for the quality and setting, with a focus on seasonal ingredients and classic techniques executed at a high level.

During our stay, we experienced the 4-course spring prix fixe menu, which included:

  • Rosemary, caramelized onion, and potato flour bread with maple butter
  • Leek soup with asparagus and pine nuts
  • Beet dish with mâche cream (light, bright, and slightly earthy)
  • “Third Pole” cocktail (their version of a margarita with a twist)
  • Scallops, perfectly seared with a crisp exterior and tender center
  • Ravioli with a rich sauce, served in a carefully portioned course
  • Steak course with excellent seasoning, carrot purée, and whipped potatoes
  • Chocolate raspberry tart, classic and well-balanced in sweetness
  • Strawberry-forward dessert served in multiple preparations, highlighting texture and acidity
  • A bottle of SIDECUT red wine, an exclusive partnership with a local winery

The ambiance is dark, warm, and intimate, with wood-heavy interiors that feel intentionally removed from the mountain energy outside. Service is polished but warm, and the pacing of the tasting menu allows the experience to unfold slowly without feeling rushed.

View the menus here:

Braidwood Tavern and Cafe

Braidwood Tavern serves as the all-day dining hub and is where breakfast is served, including for guests receiving Preferred Partner benefits. It is also the most flexible dining option for casual lunches and lighter dinners.

Braidwood Café operates seasonally and is ideal for grab-and-go coffee, pastries, and quick bites before ski days or summer excursions.

The Library by The Macallan

The Library by The Macallan is open seasonally and is the resort’s most intimate lounge space, focused on whisky, cocktails, and quiet evening drinks. It is best experienced after dinner or as a pre-dinner transition into the evening.

In-Room Dining

We also enjoyed in-room dining each morning, which is complimentary through FSPP benefits. It became an easy ritual to ease into the day while enjoying breakfast on our terrace with views of the mountain.

Our go-to favorites included the fresh fruit platter, eggs Benedict, village-style French toast, and avocado toast. The full in-room dining menu offers a wide range of additional options if you prefer something heartier or more customized.

Four Seasons Whistler in Ski Season

There is truly no shortage of activities at Four Seasons Whistler. Ski season at Four Seasons Whistler is defined by how easy the entire experience feels from start to finish. The resort takes care of logistics, equipment handling, and transfers so guests can focus on skiing and their time on the mountain rather than the details of getting there and back.

A key part of this experience is the ski concierge located at the base of the Blackcomb gondola in the Upper Village. Instead of carrying skis, boots, and poles through the resort or into transportation, guests simply drop their equipment at the concierge in the morning and begin their day directly from the mountain.

Transportation is equally streamlined. The complimentary house car and seasonal shuttle connect the resort with Whistler Village and lift access points throughout the day. While the property is not ski-in/ski-out in the traditional sense, guests are typically on the mountain within minutes of leaving the hotel, without needing to coordinate gear or navigate village logistics.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, Whistler’s winter landscape offers a full spectrum of cold-weather activities that extend well beyond the alpine slopes. Guests often layer their ski days with tubing at nearby parks, family-friendly sledding, snowmobiling excursions into the backcountry, and ice skating in the village.

After a day outdoors, the resort naturally shifts into recovery mode. Many guests return to the heated outdoor pool, whirlpools, and cedar sauna, which remain open year-round and are especially atmospheric in winter, with steam rising against the mountain backdrop. The spa also offers structured recovery treatments specifically for post-ski fatigue, including deep-tissue work and muscle-relief therapies.

The Glacier Table is a once-in-a-lifetime alpine experience accessed only by private helicopter to a remote glacier or ice cave in the Coast Mountains. Guests explore a frozen landscape with an alpine guide before enjoying a private, glacier-side setup with Four Seasons service, including a spa therapist, massage, and a curated tasting of Dom Pérignon 2013 and Kristal caviar in an unforgettable, otherworldly setting.

Four Seasons Whistler in Summer

In summer, Four Seasons Whistler transitions from a ski-focused mountain lodge into a full alpine wellness and outdoor retreat. The pace changes noticeably, with fewer logistical touchpoints and a stronger emphasis on time spent outdoors, relaxation, and exploration of the surrounding valley.

The heated outdoor pool becomes the social and experiential center of the resort during the warmer months. Surrounded by mountain views and forested landscape, it functions less as an amenity and more as a place to spend long, unstructured afternoons between activities. The whirlpools and cedar sauna remain open year-round, maintaining the resort’s wellness identity even in peak summer season.

Summer activities in Whistler are exceptionally diverse and extend well beyond the property itself. Guests have direct access to an extensive network of hiking and walking trails that connect forests, lakes, and scenic viewpoints. Popular routes include forest walks around Lost Lake, more challenging hikes into the surrounding mountains, and scenic paths that can be explored at a relaxed pace or by e-bike, which are complimentary through the resort and on a first-come, first-served basis. This is one of the most popular activities, so we encourage you to get them early. For nature spotting, we walked about 10 minutes from the hotel past a black bear calmly enjoying some grass.

Mountain biking is one of the defining summer experiences in Whistler, with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park recognized globally for its terrain and infrastructure. For guests who prefer a less technical approach, e-biking along the Valley Trail system offers a more accessible way to explore local lakes and forest corridors without the intensity of elevation gain.

Golf is another major draw, with the adjacent Chateau Whistler Golf Club and nearby Nicklaus North offering two distinctly different but equally scenic courses set against the mountain landscape. The Chateau Whistler Golf Club is less than a minute walk from the hotel’s entrance.

Within the resort, guests can participate in yoga and fitness classes, seasonal creative workshops, and guided forest-bathing experiences that emphasize mindfulness and connection with the natural environment.

There are also smaller, understated touches that shape the guest experience. Morning coffee service in the lobby makes for an easy start to the day, while pet-sitting services and family-friendly programming ensure that longer stays remain flexible and accessible for all types of travelers. The resort also occasionally offers cultural programming, including guided experiences connected to the Squamish Nation cultural landscape in the surrounding region, adding depth to the destination beyond its recreational appeal.

In both seasons, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola is a must-do experience. It spans an impressive height between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, and while it can feel a bit intimidating for those with a fear of heights, the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys make it absolutely worth it.

Four Seasons Whistler for Families

Four Seasons Whistler is one of the strongest luxury family resorts in Canada due to its space, programming, and flexibility.

Families benefit from oversized suites, year-round pool access, and a seasonal kids’ club. Children 18 and under stay free in their parents’ room when space permits, and babysitting services are also available.

A favorite amongst families is the enchanted welcome experience in the lobby, where children can select a stuffed animal in a whimsical setting that feels designed specifically for them. Additional offerings include childcare services, kids’ bathrobes and slippers, seasonal holiday programming, game and play rooms, personalized welcome amenities, kids’ menus, and s’mores by the fire.

Four Seasons Whistler vs Fairmont Chateau Whistler

The primary comparison in Whistler is between Four Seasons Resort Whistler and Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler offers a classic chateau-style mountain experience with closer proximity to the ski slopes and a more traditional aesthetic. It is often chosen by travelers who need ski-in/ski-out access.

Four Seasons Whistler, by contrast, is more contemporary with significantly larger accommodations, a stronger wellness offering, and the best spa in Canada. The service style is highly personalized and consistent, and the residences offer more space than most hotels in Whistler can match.

Luxury private home rentals are the only other real alternative for space, but they lack the full-service infrastructure and Preferred Partner benefits that come with Four Seasons residences.
