Four Seasons Vail: A Full Review

Discover the New Renovations at Four Seasons Vail: A Fall Getaway

I recently returned from a few days in Vail, where I had the opportunity to experience the stunning new renovations at Four Seasons Vail firsthand. The rooms, spa, fitness center, and dining spaces have all undergone impressive transformations, yet they maintain the timeless contemporary elegance that Four Seasons is known for. Beyond exploring the resort’s enhancements, I spent time soaking in the crisp beauty of Colorado’s fall season and attended Oktoberfest at Lionshead Village, just a short 10-minute walk from the hotel. Keep reading for a detailed look at the exciting updates at Four Seasons Vail!

Arrival Experience

Plan Ahead

Prepare for Vail’s 8,000-foot elevation by staying well-hydrated before and during your trip, and try to limit alcohol and caffeine. Disposable oxygen cans are available at the hotel if you experience shortness of breath. Be sure to pack essentials like base layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, chapstick, and moisturizer, as the dry climate can be harsh on your skin. Stay hydrated on your flight, and bring electrolyte packets and face masks to help your body adjust to the altitude. For your first day, plan a relaxed itinerary to give yourself time to acclimate.

Getting to Four Seasons Vail

It only takes about 20 minutes to get to Vail from Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE). The airport provides nonstop flights from 14 major markets in the winter, Dallas and Denver service in the Summer, and Denver (DEN) service year-round, making getting to Vail incredibly easy no matter when you visit. The airport is very small, with only a handful of terminals. If flying to Vail doesn’t work, you can also fly into Denver and take a 2-hour shuttle. Our Hotel Plus team can assist in arranging your airport transfers for a seamless arrival and departure experience.

Renovated Accommodations

Resort Room

I had the pleasure of staying in a beautifully appointed Resort Room, where luxury meets comfort. These accommodations feature cozy gas-burning stone fireplaces, standalone coffee bars, and spacious walk-in closets. Most rooms also open onto a private, furnished balcony or terrace, offering a serene outdoor space to unwind.

  • Occupancy:
    • King-bed: 2 adults, or 2 adults and 1 child
    • Double-bed: 4 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children
  • Bathroom: A large, full bathroom with a deep soaking tub and double vanity
  • Size: 575 sq. ft. (53 m²)
  • Location: 3rd to 4th floors
  • Decor: Warm, inviting tones with natural hickory trim, offering relaxing resort views

As a thoughtful touch, I was welcomed with a bottle of wine and an Oktoberfest-themed assortment of gluten-free cookies, sausage, and peach tea—perfect for building excitement for what was to come over the next few days.

Pro Tip: When booking through us, you receive priority for room upgrades with the highest success rate compared to any other booking tool, including Amex FHR. However, if you want a specific view guaranteed, we always recommend booking the room type you desire to avoid any disappointment.

Pro Tip: Keep your in-room humidifier plugged in to help your body adjust to the altitude.

Eagle’s Nest Private Residence

We had the privilege of kicking off our first night with a drink at Eagle’s Nest, a one-of-a-kind, three-bedroom private residence offering breathtaking panoramic views of Vail Mountain. Perfect for families, groups of friends, or couples seeking a luxurious retreat, this exclusive mountaintop residence spans 2,964 sq. ft. (275 m²) and is located on the top floor of the resort.

Accommodating up to 8 guests—whether 8 adults, 4 adults and 4 children, or somewhere in between—it features vaulted ceilings and an expansive layout. The outdoor patio, complete with a private hot tub, offers stunning views of both Vail Mountain and Lionshead Village. Inside, the designer kitchen seamlessly flows into the dining and living rooms, illuminated by natural light from the south- and west-facing windows. Riva Ridge Private Residence

We had the privilege of enjoying a private dining experience at Riva Ridge, a stunning six-bedroom private residence that offers the perfect blend of luxury and comfort. Spanning 5,743 sq. ft. (534 m²), this expansive designer home is ideal for families and groups of friends. The residence boasts two fireplaces—one in the master bedroom and one in the living room—a fully equipped kitchen and spacious living and dining areas, all leading to a large outdoor terrace complete with a hot tub.

With breathtaking 360-degree views of Vail Mountain and Vail Village, the setting was as exquisite as the meal itself. The residence features three king beds, four queen beds, and four twin beds, comfortably accommodating up to 12 guests. Its seven full bathrooms, media room, and contemporary Western-inspired decor provide a luxurious and inviting atmosphere. Our private dining experience here was an unforgettable highlight, perfectly complementing the beauty and serenity of this remarkable space.

Windows Private Residence

Windows, a stunning six-bedroom private residence, is my personal favorite and the one you might recognize from Four Seasons Vail’s Instagram ads. This breathtaking 5,466 sq. ft. (508 m²) residence offers an ideal retreat for families or groups of friends traveling together. With two fireplaces—one in the master bedroom and one in the grand living room—this space exudes warmth and luxury. The residence includes a full kitchen, a spacious great room with family, dining, and living areas, as well as a large outdoor terrace complete with a fire pit, barbecue, and hot tub, all framed by beautiful views of Vail Mountain and Vail Village.

It comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests with six king beds and features two full bathrooms and five 3/4 bathrooms. The contemporary furnishings are accented with a touch of Western charm, adding to its inviting ambiance. A unique feature is the private section of the residence, which can be closed off for teens or college-aged kids, offering them their own space and kitchen for added privacy. Windows is the perfect blend of grandeur, comfort, and privacy, making it an unforgettable place to stay.

A Brand-New Spa

The Four Seasons Vail Spa has received a much-needed and stunning upgrade, making it a must-visit during your next stay. With 13 enhanced treatment rooms, modernized lounges, and completely rejuvenated hot tubs, cold plunges, saunas, and steam rooms, the spa is now a true sanctuary of wellness and tranquility. Whether you’re indulging in a signature massage, hydrating facial, or one of their curated signature rituals, this spa is designed to elevate your experience. Even if you don’t have a treatment scheduled, the serene relaxation spaces, co-ed lounge, and garden are perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes.

From full-body massages and revitalizing body treatments to barber services, there’s something for everyone, and our clients always rave about the personalized, top-tier service. I personally found the 80-minute signature massage to be one of the best I’ve ever had, and the peaceful relaxation area is perfect for escaping into a good book or simply soaking in the surrounding natural beauty. As a guest, don’t skip past a treatment—this newly transformed spa is now one of the highlights of Four Seasons Vail, and you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated in every sense.

Dining at Four Seasons Vail: A Culinary Journey

Tavernetta Vail is now officially open, and it has already become a highlight of the dining scene at Four Seasons Vail. This authentic Italian dining experience brings the warmth and conviviality of Italian hospitality to the mountains, with a philosophy rooted in gathering around the table and lingering over great food and wine. The beverage program is truly special, featuring an all-Italian wine list, Italian-inspired spirits, and a thoughtfully curated digestivo selection. Breakfast is now served in Tavernetta each morning, making it the perfect way to start the day. For dinner, my standout dishes were the burrata and the gnocchi, both beautifully executed and full of flavor. The sommelier team is exceptional and does a wonderful job guiding guests through the menu, whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or simply curious to explore something new. You can view the full menu here.

The Remedy remains open for lunch and dinner and continues to be a favorite for more relaxed, alpine-inspired fare. The burger is truly to die for, and of course, you can’t skip their famous hot chocolate. Fun fact: Last winter, it sold out after Alicia Keys shared it on Instagram (the power of social media). After trying it myself, I can confidently say it’s worth every bit of the hype, and I may or may not have had it four times during my stay.

For something quick and easy, Speyside Café offers complimentary coffee and tea before noon, ideal for a grab-and-go start to the day. Guests booking with Preferred Partner amenities can also enjoy complimentary in-room breakfast dining, and if you’re spending the afternoon poolside, lunch can even be delivered directly to your cabana. Whether you’re in the mood for something casual or a more elevated dining experience, Four Seasons Vail delivers on every front.

The Chalet at Four Seasons Vail

The newly opened Chalet at Four Seasons Vail is a smart, and genuinely lovely, solution to the resort’s non–ski-in/ski-out location, and after visiting, it’s easy to see why it’s such a standout addition.

Just a seven-minute walk from the hotel and steps from Gondola One in the heart of Vail Village, the three-storey Chalet seamlessly removes the friction from ski days: the team transports your skis from the hotel and stores them in dedicated lockers downstairs, complete with boot and glove dryers, so everything is warm, dry, and ready when you arrive. The main floor houses Venture Sports, making equipment rental effortless, while the top floor quickly becomes your go-to retreat: a cozy lounge with complimentary snacks, drinks, a light breakfast, and afternoon bites. It’s polished but relaxed, exactly what you want before or after time on the mountain.

Pro tip: when you book with a Four Seasons Preferred Partner advisor and enjoy complimentary breakfast at the hotel, then pop into the Chalet for lunch, you’ll often find yourself paying for just one meal per day—one of many quiet perks. My personal favorites? The tomato soup after skiing and an expertly made espresso martini to cap off the afternoon.

Fall in Vail: A Magical Season of Crisp Air and Golden Aspen Leaves

After also experiencing Vail in the winter and summer, fall has become my new favorite time of year to visit. The beauty of the golden aspen leaves, the crisp air, and the peacefulness of the season make it a perfect escape.

As September begins, Vail transitions from summer into fall. Daytime temperatures range from the mid-60s to mid-70s, with the occasional refreshing “afternoon shower.” Mornings and evenings are cooler, with temperatures dipping into the 40s and 50s—perfect for cozying up with a warm drink after a day of exploration.

For a 4-to-5-day stay, here’s a list of available activities to help make the most of your fall adventure in Vail:

  • Raise a Stein at Oktoberfest: Celebrate “Bavarian style” with traditional food, beer, and live music. It’s a festive way to kick off fall in the mountains.
  • Forage at the Farmers’ Market: Discover local produce and artisanal goods at the Vail Farmer’s Market, a perfect stop for fresh flavors and handmade crafts.
  • Pack a Fall Picnic: Take your fall picnic to Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, one of my favorite spots. Surrounded by the beauty of these stunning botanical gardens, it’s the ideal setting to enjoy nature’s tranquility.
  • Feel the Rush on a Bike Trail: Whether you prefer an adrenaline-pumping ride or a relaxed pedal, Vail’s fall foliage makes the trails spectacular.
  • Connect with Nature on a Hike: Explore the golden aspen groves along Vail’s many trails—perfect for a peaceful retreat into nature.
  • Take a Jeep Tour: For a rugged and scenic journey through the backcountry, hop on a Jeep tour for panoramic views that will take your breath away.
  • Saddle Up for a Horseback Ride: Experience Vail’s mountain landscapes on horseback, a perfect way to enjoy fall’s serenity.
  • Soar Up a Scenic Gondola: Open on weekends after Labor Day, the gondola offers sweeping views of Vail’s autumn colors.
  • Peep the Golden Aspen Leaves: Fall in Vail is a photographer’s dream, with aspen leaves glowing in vibrant shades of gold, contrasting beautifully against the blue sky.
  • Cruise the Rockies on an Autumn Drive: Take a scenic drive through the Rockies, where the winding roads and golden foliage make every turn picture-perfect.
