Getting to Four Seasons Tamarindo: Your Ultimate Guide
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is: How do I get to Four Seasons Tamarindo?
Unlike other luxury resorts in Mexico, this hidden gem is not located near a major tourist hub or clustered among other resorts. However, the journey is absolutely worth it, and we’re here to break down the best ways to get there.
Flying into Manzanillo Airport (ZLO) – The Most Convenient Option
The closest airport to Four Seasons Tamarindo is Manzanillo-Costalegre International Airport (ZLO), which offers direct flights from a few select cities, making it the most efficient arrival point. Here’s a current breakdown of available flight routes:
- Mexico City (MEX) to ZLO: 2-3 daily flights year-round
- Los Angeles (LAX) to ZLO:
- 3x weekly in low season
- 5x weekly in high season
- Daily during festive periods
- Phoenix (PHX), Dallas (DFW), Houston (IAH), and Calgary (YYC) to ZLO: Up to 2x weekly in high season
- Atlanta (ATL) to ZLO: Now available in high season
If you’re not near one of these direct-flight airports, Mexico City serves as a well-connected international hub, offering seamless connections to ZLO.
Upon arrival at ZLO, Four Seasons Tamarindo arranges a comfortable 45-minute ground transfer to the resort, ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey. The cost of the private transfer is around $200 for up to 4 guests. However, for guests staying in one of the Premium Suites, complimentary ground luxury transportation to and from Manzanillo-Costalegre International Airport (ZLO) or Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is included with your suite booking.
Flying into Puerto Vallarta (PVR) – Alternative with a Private Air Shuttle
For travelers who don’t have easy access to flights into ZLO, another option is to fly into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and take a private or shared air shuttle arranged by Four Seasons.
Their aviation shuttle, a private flight on a four-seat, six-seat, or eight-seat jet, offers direct service to Chamela from PVR. The 25-minute flight takes you over the Costalegre, culminating in a breathtaking aerial view of the Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve. A Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo representative will be awaiting your arrival, and together, you’ll embark on a 55-minute drive to the Resort.
Currently, the resort offers an Air and Suite Promotion—book a suite for at least 4 nights through December 19, 2025, and receive a complimentary roundtrip air shuttle from PVR. This is an excellent way to make the journey easier while adding extra value to your stay.
You may choose from two types of air shuttle experiences. The private option costs $1,990 USD total and includes a Piper Saratoga PA-32R and Chevy Suburban transfer. The shared flight is $1,200 USD total and features a Kodiak 100 aircraft, also paired with Chevy Suburban ground transportation. Our contact mentioned the shared flight seating just four people, so if your group size is 3–4, it’s likely to be private.
Alternatively, you can opt to hire a helicopter for the transfer, with a flying time of approximately one hour.
Driving from Puerto Vallarta (PVR) – Least Recommended
As a final option, you could drive from Puerto Vallarta to Four Seasons Tamarindo. However, it is a 5-hour drive (with traffic) with minimal stops along the way. While the route is safe, it is not the most convenient, and we typically recommend opting for a flight instead.

- Honeymooners looking for a romantic, nature-immersed retreat.
- Insider Tip: The best view in the entire reserve is from Hole 9 on the golf course. If you ask a staff member, they just might take you to see this spectacular view.
- Is Four Seasons Tamarindo, Mexico safe for tourists? I felt very safe during my time here. You are in a gated reserve the entire time. I will say there is not much to explore outside of the reserve. There is no bustling tourist town nearby to dine and get drinks. So, this is an authentic resort experience.
- Four Seasons Tamarindo is not all-inclusive, but if you’re seeking similar surroundings, you can read our review of Naviva, an adults-only, all-inclusive tented resort.
- Wildlife spotting: There are crocodiles in the area, especially during the rainy season.
- Four Seasons Tamarindo weather: The rainy season is from June to August when temperatures reach about 90 degrees. During peak season, November-April, you can expect dryer climates with highs around 85 degrees and less humidity.
- Unique Selling Points: The resort’s design beautifully integrates with its natural surroundings, offering stunning views that feel almost cinematic. Its isolation provides a unique sense of tranquility and immersion in nature.
- Comparisons to Nearby Hotels: While Four Seasons Tamarindo is uniquely isolated and surrounded by nature, it is comparable to Four Seasons Punta Mita. Punta Mita offers a more traditional beach resort layout, while Tamarindo provides a blend of cliffside accommodations with a nature-focused environment akin to a mix of Punta Mita and One&Only Mandarina. If you value a nature-immersed setting with cliffside views and a beach resort feel, Tamarindo is a distinctive choice.
