Today’s families are gravitating toward something more refined for their getaways. They want a combination of comfort, privacy, and engaging activities for all ages. Meadowood Napa Valley delivers this in spades. Nestled in California’s renowned Napa Valley, the resort offers a polished, wooded retreat that balances luxury with a sense of intimacy.
Meadowood reopened in August 2021 and has since been showcasing 36 lodge-style rooms and suites designed by noted Napa architect Howard Backen. Families can easily take over an entire building of four rooms, offering both privacy and connection. Each building is scattered across the 250-acre estate, surrounded by forested hillsides, croquet lawns, and golf fairways. The layout invites discovery, while the resort’s golf carts make transportation simple.
The property offers endless recreational options. Guests can explore five miles of walking trails, swim in one of three pools, or enjoy tennis, croquet, or spa treatments. Dining is exceptional, from the award-winning Restaurant at Meadowood to poolside meals at the Terrace Café. The Wine Center at Meadowood Estate provides immersive wine experiences for novices and seasoned oenophiles alike. For those venturing off-property, the nearby town of St. Helena offers fantastic dining options like Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen and La Condesa, where innovative dishes and creative cocktails are a must-try.
Our Stay and Favorite Rooms
I stayed in a Club Suite in the Croquet Lodge. The suite is spacious yet cozy, with a fireplace and a back deck overlooking the croquet lawns and golf course. The bathroom has a soaking tub, and they provide bubble bath for full enjoyment. Walking to the Reception Lodge is simple, though most other rooms require a golf cart ride for convenience.
Some of my favorite rooms include:
- Woodland Room: Set on a hillside surrounded by trees, this room feels like a luxurious treehouse. It has a separate sitting room, a small outdoor deck, and a modern, minimalist design. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
- Estate Room: Offers a larger space with a four-poster bed, balcony, sitting areas, and outdoor showers. Ideal for wedding parties, bridal suites, or couples wanting extra privacy.
- Hill House: Expansive one-bedroom retreat with 1,754 square feet of living space, two furnished terraces, fire pits, and an alfresco soaking tub. A true splurge for families or couples seeking privacy and grandeur.
