Our Stay At Casa de Campo Resort and Villas

During my recent stay at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in La Romana, Dominican Republic, I was immersed in luxury and relaxation. This expansive 4-star resort proved to be the perfect destination for families, multi-generational travel, or a getaway with friends.

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the spacious accommodations, ranging from hotel rooms to 10-bedroom villas, each offering modern comfort and style. The resort’s wide array of dining options meant no reason to ever leave the resort. Casa de Campo’s impressive amenities, including a Marina & Yacht Club, Beach Club, Polo & Equestrian Club, Tennis Center, and Forbes 4-Star Spa ensured there was never a dull moment during my 5-day stay.

Spanning over 7,000 tropical acres, the resort boasts three world-class golf courses designed by Pete Dye, including the legendary Teeth of the Dog. Exploring Altos de Chavón, with its charming artisan village and iconic amphitheater, added a touch of culture to my stay.

Overall, Casa de Campo provided a safe, luxurious retreat in a Caribbean paradise that I won’t soon forget.

Arrive in Paradise

Securing convenient flights from Austin, Texas posed a minor challenge, yet I ultimately opted for an early departure with a brief layover in Fort Lauderdale, culminating in my arrival at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). Alternatively, for those with streamlined travel plans, La Romana International Airport (LRM) stands a mere five minutes from the resort, while Santo Domingo (SDQ) serves as an additional arrival option. Upon arrival at PUJ, a private chauffeur promptly conveyed me to the resort, ensuring a swift 45-minute journey to the lobby. Entry to the resort mandates the presentation of a valid passport to verify guest status, with the property securely gated around the clock, guaranteeing a sense of safety at all times. Given the comprehensive offerings onsite, spanning 7,000 square feet, I found no need to venture beyond the resort confines throughout my five-day stay.

The check-in process commenced with a gracious welcome, accompanied by complimentary champagne, followed by the seamless transfer of luggage in one of the resort’s vehicles. Subsequently, a personalized escort guided me to my accommodation. Notably, each room or villa includes a complimentary golf cart for guest use throughout the stay, conveniently stationed outside before arrival. It’s worth noting that booking through our agency ensures priority consideration for early check-in and late check-out requests because we are one of the top 1% of agencies globally.

Rooms and Villas

Superior Casita

During my stay, I opted for a Superior Casita, the entry-level room category at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. Despite its modest designation, the Superior Casita offered comfortable accommodations with two double beds, a garden view, a spacious patio, and a generously sized bathroom and entryway. These Casitas, situated in the original resort lodge, afford convenient access to key amenities such as Lago, where breakfast buffets are served daily, as well as the spa, lobby, and golf course, ensuring a central location within the resort. While the interior design may not boast the modernity of higher room categories, the proximity to facilities makes them an optimal choice for guests seeking convenience.

Elite Rooms

For those desiring a quieter and more contemporary experience, the Elite Rooms offer an upgrade. Located on the first level, these rooms feature outdoor terraces and enhanced amenities. Both Superior Casitas and Elite Rooms accommodate up to two adults and two children, with a choice between one King bed or two double beds.

Elite Suite

For more spacious accommodations, guests can consider the Elite Suite, nearly double the size of standard rooms. These suites boast two terraces, a dining table for six, a separate seating area, and a large walk-in closet, ideal for families with younger children.

Premier Suites

The Premier and Premier Jr. Suites represent the pinnacle of luxury, featuring state-of-the-art amenities and exclusive access to the Premier Club. With floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the golf course or bay, these suites provide a sophisticated retreat.

Premier Presidential Suite

For the utmost in luxury, the Premier Presidential Suite offers three bedrooms, a private office area, a full kitchen, a dining room for eight, and opulent furnishings, catering to the most discerning guests.

Private Villas

While the resort’s room categories offer ample comfort, the private villas at Casa de Campo provide unparalleled luxury and personalized service. Ranging from three to ten bedrooms, each villa boasts private pools, stylish living areas, and bespoke amenities. Guests enjoy a welcome amenity upon arrival, daily breakfast prepared at the villa, private maid service, a dedicated concierge, golf carts, and access to resort amenities.

Minetas Beach

Arriving at Minetas Beach is like stepping into a postcard-perfect scene. You’ll be amazed by the picturesque blend of white lounge chairs, swaying palm trees, and crystal-clear waters. It’s just a quick five-minute golf cart ride from the lobby. At Minetas Beach, you’ll find three pools, including an infinity pool next to the Minetas Beach Club & Restaurant. There’s also a convenient walk-up bar serving refreshing piña coladas in fresh pineapples, an ice cream and smoothie shop, and boutiques.

Complimentary Sun Bum sunscreen is available throughout the beach. The water is safe for swimming, marked by a rope about 100 feet from the shore. I spent my days alternating between the restaurant, bar, lounge chairs, and infinity pool, enjoying attentive and friendly service. Keep in mind that the island pace is relaxed, so expect a slower vibe than what you’re used to in the US. Cabana and gazebo rentals start at a $500 consumption minimum for those seeking extra comfort.

For a more private beach experience, you can take a catamaran to Catalina Island, six square miles of protected landscape. Here is a recap of all of the nearby beaches.

The Spa

While I didn’t personally experience any treatments, I couldn’t help but notice the serene ambiance of the spa, conveniently located across from my room. The spa’s exterior and interior design exudes a tranquil, zen-focused atmosphere. Spanning over 2,000 square meters, the spa boasts both indoor and outdoor facilities, offering an extensive range of treatments.

Notably, the spa holds an impressive Forbes four-star rating, reflecting its commitment to excellence. Guests can indulge in amenities such as a sauna, steam bath, vitality pool, cold water pool, thermal loungers, Kneipp Walk, and an outdoor pool. With 12 treatment rooms dedicated to massage therapies, guests can unwind and rejuvenate in luxury. Additionally, the spa features a café, allowing guests to enjoy a full day of relaxation without having to leave the premises. You can view a full list of treatments here.

Spacious Lobby Area and Activities

The lobby serves as a convenient hub for upscale boutiques, the main area pool featuring an Olympic-sized pool and a tranquil waterfall pool, the fitness center, and one of the primary dining establishments, La Caña Bar & Restaurant.

Dining Options

Here is the inside scoop on the incredible dining options at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas!

Minetas Beach Club & Restaurant:

Nestled within a tropical beachfront setting, Minetas Beach Club & Restaurant offers panoramic vistas of the Caribbean Sea, showcasing some of the island’s most captivating sunsets. Guests can luxuriate on the expansive pool deck surrounding the infinity pool, savor specialty house cocktails at the ocean-view bar, or indulge in a memorable dining experience at the restaurant. Personally, I enjoyed the salmon tartare and roasted pumpkin hummus.

Chilango Taqueria:

Situated in Altos de Chavón, Chilango Taqueria offers a vibrant and contemporary take on Mexican street food. With a stunning backdrop overlooking Plaza Chavón and the Church, this casual and affordable eatery promises bold flavors in a relaxed atmosphere.

La Caña Bar & Restaurant:

Centrally located within Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, La Caña Bar & Restaurant pays homage to the region’s rich agricultural heritage, particularly its sugar cane cultivation. The restaurant presents a fusion of French-inspired cuisine, showcasing locally sourced ingredients. Guests gather in the bar and lounge area to enjoy live music, hand-rolled cigars, and an extensive selection of Dominican rums.

La Piazzetta:

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Altos de Chavón, La Piazzetta offers a culinary journey inspired by Mediterranean flavors. Originally designed by Oscar de la Renta, this restaurant provides a family-friendly ambiance and features a diverse menu of Italian classics and signature dishes, including freshly made pasta. My favorites included the crispy eggplant chips and gnocchi.

Lago Restaurant:

Overlooking the renowned Teeth of the Dog® golf course and the Caribbean Sea, Lago Restaurant offers a luxurious buffet experience. Guests can savor breakfast delights as the sun rises, enjoy lunch while observing golfers on the 18th Hole, and indulge in a variety of made-to-order delicacies throughout the day. I personally loved the pasta-making station, the selection of desserts, and the fresh smoothie bar.

La Casita:

Inspired by the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea, La Casita specializes in Spanish-inspired cuisine with a focus on fresh, local seafood. Diners can relish the restaurant’s signature paella in an alfresco setting, overlooking the tranquil waters and bustling yacht activity.

SBG:

SBG presents an exquisite international menu with a Mediterranean twist, providing an elegant yet relaxed dining experience. Located by the pool, this sophisticated venue offers a chic ambiance, occasional live entertainment, and an array of culinary delights.

Pro Tip: the nigiri and sushi here are next level.

Causa invites guests to embark on a culinary journey through the diverse flavors of Peru. With a modern and inviting atmosphere, the restaurant showcases three distinct styles of Peruvian cuisine: Creole, Nikkei, and Chifa, providing a gastronomic exploration of Peru’s rich culinary heritage.
