Casa Familia: A Week of Ocean Breezes, Pizza Nights & Whale Shows
Imagine falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing just beyond your window, waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and tropical fruit, and never once needing to ask for your drink to be refilled. That was my reality during a recent week at Casa Familia, an 11-bedroom private beachfront villa tucked within Punta Mita’s ultra-exclusive Los Ranchos Estates.
This wasn’t just a villa stay—it felt like entering someone’s thoughtfully run, deeply loved home. Here’s what made it unforgettable (and a few things you definitely can’t Google):
First Impressions
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the house with chilled welcome drinks, warm smiles, and a simple question: “What do you feel like doing this week?”
Not a schedule. Not a printed itinerary. Just a gentle reminder that our time here was truly ours.
And that vibe continued all week long.
Thoughtful Service, Start to Finish
We casually mentioned craving pizza, and the team surprised us with a full pizza night, complete with a fire-roasted crust and toppings that rivaled some of the best pizzerias I’ve been to. It wasn’t on a menu. They just made it happen.
Our drinks were always full, perfectly made to our preference, without us having to say a word.
On our final evening, the staff set up a sunset dinner on the beach. Flickering candlelight, crashing waves, and hands-down one of the most memorable meals of my life.
The level of attentiveness was unreal, but never overbearing. You’d step away for 15 minutes and return to a perfectly refreshed room, though you never saw housekeeping. Their internal communication must be military-level.
Meals at Casa Familia
Breakfasts were casual, made to order when we were ready—just give them about an hour’s heads up. Most mornings we enjoyed:
-
Fresh fruit platters
-
Eggs however we liked
-
Sausage
-
Local coffee and fresh-squeezed juices
Lunches leaned tropical and fresh—think guacamole, grilled fish tacos, salads, and seafood caught earlier that morning.
And don’t worry—there’s a full pizza oven and outdoor grill for more spontaneous cravings. The chef team, including Oscar, Daniel, and Raul, was outstanding.
Villa Layout & Design
Casa Familia spans 13,000 sq. ft., split across two buildings:
-
Main House: Open-air kitchen, living spaces, primary bedrooms
-
Guest House: Media/game room, full gym, spa, and two bunk-style bedrooms
There’s also:
-
A massive infinity pool
-
Hot tub that glows at dusk—perfect during blue hour, the 30 minutes post-sunset, where everything just feels magical
-
Private basketball/pickleball court
-
Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel gear—ready anytime
-
A full spa with cold plunge, sauna, and massage rooms
-
A media/game room with a separate bathroom
- 4 bicycles
The open-air concept lets in all the ocean sounds—waves, birds, breeze. I personally didn’t have any bug issues, but the villa provides bug spray, aloe, and sunscreen just in case.

Lunch at Four Seasons Punta Mita or the St. Regis Punta Mita (we took the villa golf cart)
-
Surfing at La Lancha, just down the beach—world-class waves and fewer crowds
-
Whale watching right from the villa—Humpbacks put on a daily show (we even captured it on our drone!)
-
Snorkeling and paddleboarding in Banderas Bay
-
Golf at two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses
-
Pickleball & Tennis at the Punta Mita clubs
-
Day trips to Puerto Vallarta for shopping, galleries, and dining

What a Fellow Guest Said
One of the other guests I stayed with, who’s traveled the world photographing for the most elite resorts, told me:
“This place feels like someone’s private dream home. Not showy, not staged—just deeply comfortable and beautifully run. Every detail is handled before you even think to ask.”
That pretty much sums it up.
Safety & Privacy at Casa Familia
Casa Familia sits behind three levels of security: the Punta Mita gates, the private Los Ranchos community gates, and then its own gated driveway, which is monitored by a security team 24/7.
We felt totally at ease leaving our doors open and wandering around barefoot with no agenda.
