Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is the brand’s only hotel in Spain’s capital and its Madrid flagship, set inside Centro Canalejas, a restored collection of seven historic buildings dating back to 1887. The property brings together 200 rooms and suites, two destination restaurants led by Dani Brasserie on the rooftop and Isa, and a four-floor Wellness Center with one of the largest urban spa and pool facilities in the city. Throughout the building, more than 3,700 preserved artifacts reflect the depth of the restoration, while direct access to Galería Canalejas places guests inside one of Madrid’s most exclusive luxury shopping corridors.
During this stay, we paired Four Seasons Madrid with Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor, creating a seamless city-to-coast combination and one of the most natural itineraries in Spain within the Four Seasons portfolio. We also recently learned that Four Seasons Seville is coming soon, which will further expand the brand’s footprint in Spain and create even more compelling multi-city routing across Madrid, Mallorca, and Andalusia.
This guide breaks down everything you need to know before booking the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, including rooms, dining, spa, location, who it is best for, room-category strategy, and how to maximize your stay through Ourisman Travel as a Four Seasons Preferred Partner.
Quick Take — Is Four Seasons Hotel Madrid Right for You?
Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is one of the best luxury hotels in Madrid for travelers who want to be in the absolute center of the city with immediate access to museums, shopping, and dining. This is a full-service urban luxury hotel set inside a landmark historic restoration, not a quiet residential retreat.
The experience is defined by scale, energy, and connectivity. You are steps from Puerta del Sol, Gran Vía, and the Golden Triangle of Art, but you are also inside a building that feels like a destination in itself, with rooftop dining, a large spa, and direct access to Canalejas luxury boutiques.
This hotel works best when you want Madrid at your doorstep. It is less ideal if you are seeking a quiet neighborhood escape or a small boutique experience with minimal foot traffic.
Stay at Four Seasons Madrid If…
- You want walking access to the Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Reina Sofía, Puerta del Sol, and Gran Vía.
- You want a full spa and indoor pool in central Madrid.
- You want rooftop dining and skyline views in the city center.
- You are visiting Madrid for the first time.
- You are combining business and leisure travel.
- You are pairing Madrid with other Four Seasons properties in Europe.
Consider Something Else If…
- You prefer a small, quiet boutique hotel experience.
- You want a residential neighborhood like Salamanca or Chamberí.
- You are sensitive to city energy and want a calm retreat setting.
- You want a resort-style property with large outdoor grounds.

Arrival Experience & First Impressions at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
Getting to the Hotel
Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is located approximately 7.5 miles from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, with a typical private transfer time of 20 minutes, depending on traffic. High-speed AVE rail connections from Atocha also make the hotel a strong base for travelers continuing onward to Sevilla, Córdoba, Málaga, or Barcelona.
We flew directly from Mallorca to Madrid. On arrival, greeters were already waiting in baggage claim with luggage carts positioned for us. Our bags were quickly offloaded and coordinated while we were escorted directly to waiting vehicles. The hotel arranged three vans so the group could travel comfortably together.
A VIP meet-and-greet service is available for approximately 435 USD per way. Transportation should be arranged in advance, as Uber queues at the airport can be long and inconsistent. Private transfers are strongly recommended for a smoother arrival experience.
Pro Tip: Transportation should be booked in advance. Uber and rideshare lines at Madrid–Barajas can be long and unpredictable, particularly during peak arrival windows, so we strongly recommend arranging a private transfer through the hotel or our Hotel Plus service. There is currently no complimentary transportation program offered by the property.
From an operational standpoint, Madrid works exceptionally well for international arrivals. Direct flights to Madrid are available from major U.S. hubs, including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston, with an average flight time of about 7 hours. This makes it one of the most efficient European entry points for a long weekend or an extended trip to Spain.
Arrival Experience
Arrival at the hotel feels highly coordinated and discreetly elevated.
Upon entering the property, we were welcomed with a non-alcoholic signature drink in the lobby while passports were handled by the team. Check-in was completed while seated, immediately setting a relaxed tone after travel.
Once we were finished, we were escorted directly to our rooms, where a brief orientation was provided. The entire process felt structured but personal, with clear attention to timing and guest flow.
First Impressions
The first impression of Four Seasons Madrid is shaped heavily by its architecture and atmosphere. The lobby sits within a restored 1891 bank building, with original marble and preserved ceilings that immediately signal the property’s history.
The energy in the hotel is noticeably social. The lobby is active throughout the day, with guests moving between restaurants, shopping access, and the bar. This is not a quiet, residential-style hotel. It feels like a city hub.
Artwork throughout the building reflects both the historic structure and contemporary Spanish artists, adding a curated gallery-like feel across public spaces and guest rooms.
Communication During Your Stay
While on property, guests can communicate with the hotel team seamlessly through either the Four Seasons app or WhatsApp. Both options are actively monitored and are the most efficient way to handle everything from dining reservations and spa appointments to in-room requests and concierge support. The response times are usually less than ten minutes.
Why the Location Matters — Centro Canalejas and the Heart of Madrid
Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is located within Centro Canalejas Madrid, one of the city’s most important redevelopment projects, positioned between Calle de Alcalá and Calle de Sevilla, just steps from Puerta del Sol.
This location puts you within walking distance of Madrid’s most important cultural and historical sites, including the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and the Reina Sofía Museum.
Neighborhood Feel
Centro Canalejas blends historic architecture with modern luxury retail and dining. The surrounding area feels energetic and central, with immediate access to the Gran Vía, Plaza Mayor, Barrio de las Letras, and Retiro Park.
This is one of the most walkable luxury locations in Madrid. You can easily move between museums, shopping districts, and dining neighborhoods without relying heavily on transportation.
Compared to Salamanca or Chamberí, this area is more active and urban. It is best suited for travelers who want to be in the center of everything rather than in a quiet residential enclave.
Rooms and Suites at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
One of the most important things to understand about Four Seasons Hotel Madrid is that room selection matters far more here than at most city hotels. The property spans seven historic buildings within Centro Canalejas, meaning the layout is highly architectural and intentionally preserved rather than standardized. With 200 keys, 39 suites, and 25 private residences, no two rooms are entirely identical, even within the same category.
Rooms and suites are primarily located across floors 2 through 6, with top-level residences above.
Because of the way the original buildings were merged, some rooms may have slight level changes, including a single step between spaces. This is part of the historic conversion, and something to flag in advance for guests with mobility considerations.
Guest Rooms
Entry-level categories include Superior, Deluxe, and Premier rooms. Superior rooms typically face interior courtyards, which offer a quieter experience but less natural light. Deluxe rooms may include Juliet balconies or slight layout variations due to the historic structure.
Premier rooms offer more light and often better street-facing views over Calle de Alcalá or Calle de Sevilla, bringing more energy into the space.
Bathrooms across all categories feature marble finishes, walk-in showers, and refined fixtures that feel consistent with Four Seasons standards.
Suites
Suites offer greater variety, particularly in layout and outdoor space. Some include French balconies or small terraces, while others prioritize interior living space.
The Sevilla, Alcalá, and Canalejas suites are especially notable, each reflecting its position within the building’s structure and offering different vantage points over the city.
The Terrace Suites are among the most desirable options, particularly in warmer months, as they provide true outdoor living space in the center of Madrid.
The One-Bedroom Suite with a terrace (around $5–6K/night) was our favorite accommodation for couples, with an expansive furnished terrace and sweeping city views that make you feel like you never need to leave the room.
Top Suites
The Presidential Two-Bedroom Suite is located on the fifth floor at the triangular corner of the building and offers expansive city views, a large master closet, and a strong sense of privacy for multi-room stays.
The Penthouse Suite sits at the top of the hotel and features two large terraces and a free-standing oval bathtub, making it one of the most dramatic accommodations in the city.
Family and Friends suites are also available for larger groups or multi-generational travel.
Our Stay
We stayed in Deluxe Room #310, which offered a well-balanced layout with strong comfort and functionality.
The highlight was the overall in-room experience: an exceptionally comfortable bed, complimentary snacks, plush robes, and thoughtful nightly turndown amenities that elevated the stay beyond standard city hotel expectations.
It’s worth noting that #310 had a level floor plan, which is something important to flag for guests with mobility sensitivities, as select rooms in the hotel may include small internal steps due to the historic architecture.
How to Choose a Room
- Request courtyard rooms for maximum quiet.
- Request street-facing rooms for more light and energy.
- Choose terrace categories if outdoor space is a priority.
- Work with an advisor due to layout variability across buildings.
Room Category Comparison
| Room Category | Best For | View / Outdoor Space | Approx. Size | Why Book It |
| Superior / Deluxe Room | Solo travelers, couples on shorter stays | Courtyard or street view, no outdoor space | Entry-level | Best accessible entry point |
| Premier Room | Couples wanting more light | Street-facing with Juliet balcony | Larger guest room | Best balance of value and atmosphere |
| Premier Suite | Longer stays, light entertaining | French balcony or terrace | One-bedroom suite | Best suite entry point |
| Sevilla / Alcalá / Canalejas Suite | Couples, special occasions | Named street views | Larger suite | Best character and sense of place |
| Terrace Suite | Couples, warm-weather stays | Private terrace | Large suite | Best outdoor living option |
| Family & Friends Suite | Families, groups | Connecting configurations | Multi-room | Best for privacy and space |
| Presidential Suite | Special occasions | Corner views | Two-bedroom | Best statement suite |
| Penthouse Suite | Celebrations, long stays | Dual terraces | Largest suite | Best city views and outdoor space |
Dining at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
Dining at Four Seasons Madrid stands on its own as a major reason to stay here. The hotel competes directly with some of the city’s best independent restaurants, led by rooftop dining at Dani Brasserie by Dani García.
Dani Brasserie
Dani Brasserie sits on the seventh floor and offers panoramic rooftop views of Madrid, along with Spanish and international cuisine with Andalusian influences. Breakfast here is one of the most memorable hotel breakfast experiences in the city, and dinner transitions into a lively, skyline-focused setting that works especially well for celebrations. Our favorite dishes were the grilled sea bass with mussels and codium velouté and grilled artichokes.

Pro Tip: A reservation is required to dine here due to its popularity.
Isa Restaurant & Cocktail Bar
Isa is a modern Asian-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar with a more energetic and social atmosphere. It is design-forward and ideal for guests looking for a lively dinner or drinks without leaving the hotel. Highlights included the salmon tartare and avocado nigiri. View their menu here.
El Patio
El Patio occupies the historic lobby space of the former bank and serves coffee, pastries, light bites, and drinks throughout the day. It is ideal for casual meetings or relaxed afternoons in a more intimate setting.
In-Room Dining and Private Experiences
In-room dining is fully available and widely used, particularly for breakfast. Select terrace suites may also accommodate private dining experiences, depending on availability and setup.
The Wellness Center, Pool, and Spa
The four-floor Wellness Center is one of the largest luxury spa facilities in Madrid and is a defining feature of Four Seasons Hotel Madrid.
Pool and Rooftop Terrace
The hotel features a 14-meter indoor pool in the wellness complex, along with a rooftop terrace offering additional relaxation space and city views. The pool area is complemented by hydro facilities, sauna, and steam rooms.
Spa and Treatments
The four-story spa includes multiple treatment rooms, including couples’ suites, and offers a full range of massages, facials, and body treatments. The wellness experience is designed to feel expansive rather than purely treatment-focused. View the list of services and treatments on their website.
Fitness Center and Salon
The fitness center is modern and well-equipped, featuring cardio and strength-training equipment and natural light. The Rossano Ferretti Hairspa offers high-end hair services on-site.

Villa Magna offers a quieter, residential feel in Salamanca. Four Seasons is more central, more active, and better suited for first-time visitors.

When to Visit Madrid
Spring and fall offer the best walking weather, particularly April through June and September through October.
Summer is hot, with some local closures in August, while winter brings festive energy around the Gran Vía and Plaza Mayor. Major events such as ARCO, Madrid Fashion Week, and the Madrid Open can significantly increase demand.
Preferred Partner Benefits at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid
Booking through Ourisman Travel as a Four Seasons Preferred Partner can include additional value-added amenities such as daily breakfast, room or dining credit, upgrade priority at check-in, early check-in, late checkout, VIP recognition, and assistance with pre-arrival planning and reservations.
Because the hotel is built across seven historic buildings, room selection matters significantly. Working with a Four Seasons Preferred Partner advisor enables tailored requests, such as quiet courtyard rooms, terrace categories, or specific suite placements based on guest priorities.
Family-Friendliness and Kids Amenities
Four Seasons Madrid does not have a dedicated kids’ club, nor does it offer a structured daily children’s program. However, the hotel is still well-suited for families thanks to its flexible room configurations and strong service support for younger travelers.
Families can choose from connecting rooms and multi-bedroom suites, making it easy to stay together while maintaining privacy and space. Babysitting services are also available upon request for parents looking to enjoy the city or dine out in the evenings.
While the property is not designed as a traditional resort-style family destination, thoughtful touches help elevate the experience for younger guests. These include in-room movie night setups, child-sized bathrobes, complimentary children’s toiletries, and dedicated children’s menus available in both restaurants and through in-room dining.
Insider Notes You Would Not Know Before Staying
A few details stand out only once you are on the property.
The hotel can assist with Hermès appointment requests directly through its Canalejas connection, although availability is not guaranteed. The property has also hosted high-profile guests, including Kim Kardashian, who experienced limited availability of certain boutiques even while staying on-site.
Because the hotel is built on seven historic structures, some rooms have slight changes in floor level or steps, which is important for guests with mobility needs. Layouts can also vary significantly within the same category, making pre-arrival communication essential.
We also experienced highly personalized touches throughout the stay, including tailored amenities and proactive dietary accommodations without needing to repeat requests.
Personal Highlights
Several aspects of Four Seasons Madrid stood out during the stay. The rooftop experience at Dani Brasserie was consistently exceptional, both for breakfast and dinner. They proactively remembered our specific food allergies, and the location’s walkability made exploring Madrid effortless, without relying heavily on transportation.
One of the most memorable “above and beyond” touches was when the team knew we were expecting a baby. Without any request, turndown service included a mini baby blanket as a thoughtful in-room amenity, which was a small but incredibly personal gesture that stood out.
Things to Consider Before Booking
This is not a quiet boutique hotel. The lobby and public spaces can feel busy and social throughout the day.
Some rooms have limited natural light, particularly those facing the courtyard. Street-facing rooms offer more energy but may have light city noise depending on location.
Because of the building’s historic structure, some rooms include uneven floors or steps, which should be considered for mobility needs.
Layouts vary widely within categories, so selecting the right room benefits significantly from advisor input.
