Often our highest-selling hotel in the world, Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, has a strong following of loyal fans, and our clients often return year after year. But we’ve learned that it’s not for everyone. While most people are hard-pressed to find anything to complain about in the hotel’s staff and high level of service, some individuals may not like the resort’s layout or the “see and be seen” ambiance. Given its existing popularity, it makes sense that the hotel was chosen as the setting for Season 1 of HBO’s White Lotus. After placing hundreds of clients here over the years, we’ve found that it strikes a balance few resorts can. It offers polished service, an excellent beachfront location on Wailea Beach, and amenities that work equally well for families and couples.
Located on Maui’s sunny southwestern coast, the resort sits directly on Wailea Beach, one of Hawaii’s most popular stretches of sand for swimming, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. While the 2023 wildfires devastated Lahaina on the island’s west side, the Wailea area was unaffected and remains fully open for visitors.
Four Seasons Maui is our most popular destination for couples, especially honeymooners. Guests celebrating a special occasion should indulge in everything the property offers, especially the adults-only sanctuary pool and the spa. And, for a little adventure, be sure to give the outrigger canoeing a whirl!
Like every resort, though, Four Seasons Maui is not the perfect fit for everyone. Some travelers love the lively atmosphere around the pools and restaurants, while others prefer something quieter or more secluded. Choosing the right room category also has a meaningful impact on the experience, and there are a few details, like parking fees and the lack of connecting rooms, that are worth understanding before you book.

It’s particularly well-suited for first-time visitors to Hawaii who want an easy, relaxing vacation without sacrificing service, location, or dining. Families appreciate the complimentary kids’ programming and spacious accommodations, while couples can spend the day at the adults-only Serenity Pool before enjoying dinner overlooking the ocean.
The biggest trade-off is that this is an active resort. The atmosphere is polished but social, especially around the pools and restaurants. If you’re hoping for complete privacy or an adults-only environment, another Hawaiian resort may be a better fit.

One of the biggest decisions you’ll make when booking Four Seasons Maui is choosing the right room category. While every guest receives the same outstanding service and access to the resort’s amenities, the view from your room can dramatically change your experience.
Accommodations range from entry-level Mountain-View Rooms to Ocean View, Ocean Front, and Ocean Front Prime Rooms, along with several suite categories for travelers looking for additional space. Every room includes a furnished private lanai, generous living space, marble bathrooms, and interiors inspired by Hawaii’s natural colors and textures.
If you’re traveling as a family, it’s also important to know that the resort does not offer connecting guest rooms. Families wanting separate sleeping areas should plan on booking a suite or a two-bedroom accommodation rather than expecting adjoining rooms.
How We Recommend Choosing Your Room
Rather than simply booking the least expensive category, we encourage clients to think about how much time they’ll spend enjoying the view from their room.
These are the entry-level accommodations and generally offer the lowest rates. They’re a good option if your priority is experiencing the resort itself, but the views can include parking areas, rooftops, or tennis courts. If having a beautiful view is important to you, we recommend moving up at least one category.
For many travelers, this is the sweet spot. Ocean View Rooms provide a much stronger sense of place while remaining a good value compared to the premium categories. We most often recommend these to couples and first-time visitors.
If you’re celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or milestone trip, this is where we’d encourage you to splurge. These rooms offer direct, unobstructed views of the Pacific and are among the best vantage points on the property.
Other Suites
Families, longer stays, and special occasions often justify moving into a suite. Prime Executive Suites offer additional living space, while larger two-bedroom suites are well-suited for families who need separate sleeping areas. At the top of the resort’s accommodations is the Maile Suite, an expansive three-bedroom residence designed for larger families and milestone celebrations.
Advisor Tip: We always recommend booking the room category you’ll be happy staying in rather than relying on an upgrade. Four Seasons Preferred Partner guests receive upgrade priority when available, but Maui is one of the brand’s busiest resorts, and complimentary upgrades during peak travel periods are never guaranteed.
Pools, Beach, and Resort Amenities
The adults-only Serenity Pool is our favorite spot for couples looking for a quieter afternoon. If a cabana is on your wish list, reserve it before your arrival, especially during holidays and school breaks.
Families naturally gravitate toward the Waterfall Pool, which features a small waterslide and a shallow area for younger children. The Fountain Pool, closest to Wailea Beach, is ideal if you plan to move back and forth between the beach and the pool throughout the day.
Service is where Four Seasons really stands apart. Throughout the day, attendants circulate with chilled water, sunscreen, cold towels, and small treats, so you’re rarely left wondering where to find help.
Wailea Beach
The resort sits directly on Wailea Beach, one of Maui’s most popular beaches for swimming and water activities.
The water is typically calm in the morning, making it a great time for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying the ocean. On one of our visits, we spotted a sea turtle while snorkeling just offshore. As the afternoon trade winds pick up, conditions become better for boogie boarding and other beach activities.
If you enjoy walking, the Wailea Beach Path runs directly past the resort and connects several of Wailea’s luxury hotels, making it easy to explore the coastline without getting in the car.
Advisor Tip: If easy beach access is one of your priorities, Four Seasons Maui is one of our favorite recommendations in Hawaii. You’re just steps from the sand, and the combination of beach service and pool service makes it easy to spend the entire day outdoors.
Dining at Four Seasons Maui
The dining program is another reason many guests spend most of their meals at the resort. Rather than several restaurants that feel interchangeable, each has its own personality.
Spago by Wolfgang Puck is the signature restaurant and one of the hardest reservations to secure on the island. The oceanfront setting makes it especially popular at sunset, so we recommend booking well before you arrive.
DUO Steak & Seafood serves both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast here is one of the highlights of the stay, especially if it’s included through Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits. The menu offers everything from classic American breakfast favorites to lighter Hawaiian-inspired options, making it a great choice for both couples and families.

For lunch or a relaxed dinner, Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante is one of our favorite spots on the property. Its beachfront setting and Italian-inspired menu make it an easy recommendation for a leisurely afternoon or casual evening meal.

If you’re craving sushi or Japanese-inspired cuisine, KOMO is an excellent addition to the resort’s dining lineup. The menu features fresh sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls, and shareable plates in a more intimate setting than the resort’s larger restaurants.

Beyond the restaurants, guests can also enjoy poolside dining, the Beachwalk Café for lighter fare, and the open-air Lobby Lounge, where live Hawaiian music often accompanies sunset.

Four Seasons Maui Resort Fee, Parking, and Other Costs
One of the questions we hear most often is whether Four Seasons Maui charges a resort fee. The answer is simple: no.
Unlike many luxury resorts in Hawaii, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea does not charge a daily resort fee. Amenities that are often included in resort fees elsewhere, including Wi-Fi, beach and pool service, fitness center access, and use of the resort’s pools, are already included with your stay.
That doesn’t mean your room rate covers everything, though. Here’s what to expect before you arrive.
Is There a Resort Fee at Four Seasons Maui?
No. Four Seasons Maui does not charge a resort fee.
This is one of the property’s biggest advantages, particularly when comparing the overall cost of a stay to other luxury resorts on Maui. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the beach, pools, lounge chairs, towels, and many of the resort’s amenities without an additional daily fee being added to your bill.
What About Parking?
Parking is not included with your stay.
Both self-parking and valet parking are available, with fees that may change over time. Because parking rates are updated periodically, we recommend confirming the current pricing before your arrival.

Other Charges to Expect
Beyond your room rate, plan for Hawaii’s state taxes as well as any dining, spa treatments, or activities you choose to add during your stay.
Restaurant meals, room service, spa appointments, golf, and many off-property excursions are priced separately. Knowing these costs in advance can help you build a more realistic vacation budget.
Advisor Tip: While Four Seasons Maui isn’t an inexpensive resort, the lack of a resort fee often makes the final cost closer to competing luxury hotels than many travelers initially expect.
Maui is a Hotspot for Activities
One of our favorite off-property activities is Maui Brewing Company. Maui Brewing Company is located just 10-15 minutes from the Wailea area resorts. It offers a brewery tour, tasting flights, a restaurant with a fun Hawaiian pub-style menu, and live music. They also have a brewpub in Lahaina.
Watching the sunrise at Haleakala should definitely be added to your bucket list. You can do this on your own with a rental car or join a tour. We recommend the downhill bike tours – they bus you up to the peak for sunrise viewing and then you bike your way down with a stop for a breakfast picnic along the way. Pro tip: If your trip only allows for time on one island, Maui is a great choice because it offers a little bit of everything. The activity selection is broad, and visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches, quality snorkeling, great hikes and drives, good shopping, and excellent dining!

Four Seasons Maui vs. Four Seasons Hualalai
If you’re deciding between Four Seasons Maui and Four Seasons Hualalai, the good news is that there isn’t a wrong answer. They simply deliver very different experiences.

When to Visit Four Seasons Maui
Maui is a year-round destination, but the experience can feel quite different depending on when you visit.
Spring and Fall
For many travelers, April through early June and September through mid-November offer the best balance of pleasant weather, lighter crowds, and more attractive rates.
These months are especially popular with couples, honeymooners, and travelers who aren’t limited by school schedules.
Summer
Summer is peak season for families.
Kids For All Seasons is in full swing, the pools are lively, and Wailea has a fun, energetic atmosphere. It’s also one of the busiest times of year, so we recommend booking well in advance if you’re planning a summer vacation.
Winter
Winter is Maui’s busiest travel season, especially around Christmas, New Year’s, Presidents’ Day, and spring break.
If you’re hoping to travel during one of these periods, it’s not uncommon for the best room categories to sell out many months in advance.
Winter is also humpback whale season, making it an especially rewarding time to visit if whale watching is on your bucket list.
Advisor Tip: If your schedule allows for it, we often recommend late April, May, September, or October. You’ll usually enjoy excellent weather while avoiding some of the island’s busiest travel periods.
