After recently spending a few days at Miraval Austin on a girls’ trip, we came home with plenty of opinions about what is worth booking, what we would skip, and what we wish we had known before arriving. This was also our second Miraval experience after previously staying at Miraval Arizona, which gave us an interesting point of comparison. In this Miraval Austin review, we’re sharing exactly what the wellness resort is like, what’s included, our favorite classes and spa treatments, where we think the experience could improve, and how Austin compares with Miraval Arizona.
Miraval Austin sits high above Lake Travis, surrounded by the rolling landscape that makes this part of Texas so beautiful. We live about 15 minutes from the resort, so we are admittedly more accustomed to these Hill Country views than the average guest. From certain points around the property, we could practically point to where our house was, which was a funny reminder that this particular wellness getaway was happening very close to home.
For someone flying into Austin, though, the setting offers exactly what you would want from a wellness retreat. The property feels removed from the pace of the city, and once you settle in, the focus shifts entirely to slowing down, taking care of yourself, and deciding how much or how little you want to do each day.
That flexibility is one of the things we appreciate most about Miraval. You can fill your schedule with yoga, meditation, fitness classes, outdoor activities, workshops, and spa treatments, or you can spend most of the day at the pool and call it a success. For a girls’ trip, couples’ getaway, solo wellness retreat, or simply a few days dedicated to pressing pause, there is enough structure to keep you engaged without making the experience feel like a wellness boot camp.
Having now stayed at both Miraval Austin and Miraval Arizona, we wanted to break down exactly what the Austin experience is like, what is included, which classes and treatments we would book again, what we would skip, what the rooms and dining are like, and how Austin compares with Arizona. We will also compare Miraval’s four destinations, look at some of the property’s top wellness competitors, and share the practical details we wish we had known before arriving.
Pro Tip: Comparing Wellness Resorts
If you are considering Miraval Austin alongside other wellness resorts, there are a few resources we recommend using before deciding where to go. Virtuoso’s Wellness Community is a great place to explore wellness-focused hotels and resorts around the world and get a sense of how different properties approach wellness, from destination spas and fitness-focused retreats to holistic and transformational experiences. We also recommend checking out our Where to Go for Wellness guide, where we round up some of our favorite wellness destinations and what makes each one different.
Is Miraval Austin Worth It?
For the right traveler, yes. Miraval Austin is worth it if you want a wellness-focused getaway built around more than simply staying at a beautiful resort. The value comes from the combination of accommodations, all-inclusive dining, an extensive schedule of wellness classes and activities, spa facilities, and the opportunity to genuinely disconnect from your normal routine.
What surprised us most was how much we enjoyed Miraval’s device-free culture and the freedom to make the experience as structured or unstructured as we wanted. We would recommend it most for girls’ trips, couples, solo travelers, and anyone who wants to explore wellness without committing to an overly rigid retreat.
If nightlife, elaborate dining, or a traditional luxury resort experience is the priority, Miraval probably isn’t the best fit. But if you want to come home feeling like you actually stepped away from everyday life for a few days, that is where Miraval Austin excels.
How Does Miraval Austin Work?
Miraval Austin is designed as an adults-only, all-inclusive wellness resort, which means your nightly rate covers much more than the room. Meals, snacks, and a substantial schedule of daily wellness classes and activities are included, while spa treatments, private sessions, alcohol, and certain specialty experiences are available for an additional cost. When booking with us, a nightly resort credit can also be applied toward eligible spa treatments and private sessions, although the exact amount and current inclusions are worth confirming when you book.
The biggest thing to understand before you arrive is that Miraval is not really a resort where you come with a fixed itinerary and spend the rest of your time deciding what to do. There is an enormous menu of classes and experiences available, and the most popular options can fill up quickly. We recommend looking through the complimentary activity calendar at least one week before your stay and booking the experiences you know you want as early as possible. The spa often fills up even earlier, so we recommend booking your spa treatments at least 30 days in advance if possible.
The other defining part of the Miraval experience is its device-free culture. You can use your phone to take photos, but throughout the public areas, guests are encouraged to put their devices away and actually be where they are. After a few hours, we realized we had completely stopped thinking about our phones. There were no notifications pulling us away from dinner, no one scrolling beside the pool, and no temptation to spend half an hour answering emails between classes. People were talking to each other, reading, walking, sitting quietly, or simply enjoying the surroundings. For a wellness retreat, that might be one of the most valuable amenities of all.
Miraval also has a very relaxed approach to how you spend your time. There is no pressure to participate in everything just because it is included. In fact, we learned pretty quickly that trying to squeeze too much into the schedule defeats the purpose. On our first day, we made the mistake of booking too many activities and found ourselves rushing from one class to the next. By the second day, we realized that two to three classes was the sweet spot, leaving plenty of time for the pool, spa, sauna, meals, and simply doing nothing.
How Do You Get to Miraval Austin?

For anyone flying into Austin, getting to Miraval is remarkably easy. The resort offers complimentary transportation from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and the drive to the property takes approximately 40 minutes. We recommend arranging your airport transfer in advance as part of your reservation so everything is taken care of before you arrive.
How Do You Get Around Miraval Austin?

Once you arrive, getting around Miraval Austin is fairly easy. Most of the main resort is within walking distance, and you can always call for a golf cart if you would rather not walk. The property is large enough, however, that getting from one side to the other can take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
That is worth keeping in mind when building your daily schedule. If you have only 10 minutes between two classes on opposite sides of the property, you may have to move quickly to arrive right on time. It is doable, but it is not the kind of place where you want to schedule back-to-back activities across the property without giving yourself any buffer.
A few experiences are farther away and are not walkable, including the farm and activities around the lake, and a meet-up spot will be designated to get to these activities.
What Happens When You Check Out?
One of the practical details we appreciated is that the Miraval experience does not necessarily end the moment you check out. Check-out is at 11 a.m., and luggage is typically collected from your room around 10:30 a.m. If you have a later departure, you can often continue using the resort’s facilities after check-out if you request it.
We did exactly this, which meant we could enjoy more of the property rather than spending our final morning worrying about packing up and leaving immediately.
How Do You Communicate With the Miraval Austin Team?
One opportunity we noticed during our stay would be an easier way to communicate with the resort while moving around the property. Because guests spend so much of the day in classes, at the spa, by the pool, or exploring the grounds, a simple mobile messaging option could make quick questions or requests even more seamless.
Currently, guests can call from their room or connect with the team in person. We would love to see Miraval eventually introduce a messaging option for quick questions, reservation confirmations, or schedule assistance, particularly given how intentionally guests spend their days away from their rooms.
What is “Miraval Mode” and what are the phone rules?
Miraval Mode encourages guests to limit phone use in public spaces to foster presence, though devices are not banned outright. The expectation is mindfulness, not scrolling poolside.
My advice: tell friends and family you’ll be slower to respond, bring a book or journal, and lean into it. Miraval Mode is a big reason the stay feels like a real break instead of just a change of scenery.
Is Miraval Arizona adults-only?
Yes. Miraval Austin is marketed as adults-only (18+).
The Setting: Hill Country Above Lake Travis
Miraval Austin is set on approximately 220 acres overlooking Lake Travis, surrounded by the rolling landscape of the Texas Hill Country. The setting is beautiful and immediately feels removed from the pace of Austin, even though you are less than an hour from the airport. The property is surrounded by oak trees, native landscaping, and expansive views across the lake, with plenty of quiet outdoor spaces to sit, walk, or simply take in the scenery.
For us, the Lake Travis setting was familiar, but that did not make it any less beautiful. We are used to seeing this landscape in our everyday life, so we probably appreciated the design and sense of privacy around the property more than the novelty of the views themselves. For guests visiting from outside Austin, the setting is a major part of the experience.
The landscape also plays a role in how you experience the programming. Some of the activities take place outdoors or farther from the main resort, including experiences at the farm and around the lake. These areas feel more removed from the central property and are part of what makes Miraval more than simply a hotel with a spa attached to it.
That said, the Texas climate is something to consider when planning your stay. We visited in July, and while the weather did not prevent us from enjoying the resort, it definitely influenced which activities we wanted to do. The farm tour and challenge course were both on our list, but it was simply too hot for us to want to spend extended time doing either.
For that reason, if outdoor activities are a major part of why you are considering Miraval Austin, we would personally look toward the cooler months. The spa, classes, pools, and indoor programming make the resort an option year-round, but October through May gives you a much better opportunity to take advantage of everything the property has to offer outdoors.
Overall, the setting is exactly what you would expect from a Hill Country wellness retreat: quiet, green, expansive, and intentionally removed from the everyday. The difference is that you are looking out over Lake Travis rather than the Sonoran Desert, which becomes one of the biggest distinctions when comparing Miraval Austin with Miraval Arizona.
The Classes and Experiences: What to Book, What to Skip
One of the biggest draws of Miraval Austin is the sheer amount of programming available. The daily activity calendar is extensive, covering everything from yoga and meditation to fitness, nutrition, outdoor adventures, and more experiential wellness activities. The nice thing is that there is something for almost every level of interest, but the sheer number of choices can also make it tempting to overbook yourself.
Here are the experiences that stood out most from our stay.
Private Anti-Inflammatory Nutrition Consultation
This was probably the sleeper hit of our trip. We booked a private anti-inflammatory nutrition consultation expecting a fairly standard conversation about healthy eating, but it ended up being one of the most useful experiences we did.
The session was structured more like an open Q&A than a formal lecture. We were able to ask questions about inflammation, nutrition, fiber, and how different choices can fit into everyday life. We also completed TDEE and body-composition testing using Miraval’s equipment, and we left with personalized resources and recommendations that we could actually take home and use.
Our only wish was that the consultation had been 90 minutes instead of 50. We had enough questions that the time went by quickly, and we could have easily spent another 30 to 40 minutes talking through everything.
If you are interested in the nutrition side of wellness, we would book this early in your stay so you have time to incorporate what you learn into the rest of your experience.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga was exactly what we wanted from a wellness retreat. There was no fast-paced flow or feeling that we needed to keep up. Instead, the class focused on long, deep stretches and slowing down.
Traditional Yoga Flow
On the other end of the spectrum, we also took a more traditional yoga flow that was significantly more challenging and much closer to the classes we normally take.
We liked having both options. Miraval is not exclusively about gentle movement, and you can absolutely find classes that challenge you physically if that is what you are looking for. The key is choosing the right class for the kind of day you want to have.
Crystal Bowl Chakra Meditation
The crystal bowl chakra meditation was a transformative experience.
The first few minutes took some getting used to because the sound genuinely feels like the bowls are vibrating inside your own body. It is difficult to describe until you experience it yourself. By the end of the session, almost everyone in the room had fallen asleep.
We found it fascinating, although probably not something everyone will immediately connect with. Now that we know what to expect, we would actually lean into it more the next time. Part of the experience is letting yourself stop analyzing what is happening and simply allowing the sound to take over.
Floating Meditation
Floating meditation was relaxing, but this is one experience we probably would not book again at the additional cost.
We enjoyed doing it once, and it was certainly peaceful, but compared with some of the other included programming and experiences available at Miraval, it did not stand out enough for us to prioritize it on another visit.
Cooking Class
All of the cooking classes are focused on farm-to-table cooking, focusing your meals around vegetables and in-season produce, and using minimally processed ingredients.
Other Classes Worth Mentioning
- Pilates Fusion
- Balcones Bootcamp
- Happy Hips
- Equine Experiences
- Beekeeping
- Paddleboarding and kayak adventures
- Cardio drumming
- Challenge course
- Past Life Odyssey
- Healthy Gut, Healthy You
- Cocktails with the Chef
- Crystal Meditation
- … and so much more
The Spa at Miraval Austin
The spa is one of the biggest reasons people come to Miraval Austin, and after experiencing it ourselves, we understand why. It is easy to build an entire day around the spa here, particularly when you pair a treatment with time at the infinity pool, sauna, and steam room.
The Ginger Healer
If we could recommend just one treatment, it would be the Ginger Healer. This was actually our second time booking it, because we loved it so much at Miraval Arizona that we knew we wanted to do it again in Austin.
The 75-minute treatment starts with a 60-minute deep-tissue massage before moving into a 15-minute ginger body scrub. You then shower in the treatment room before getting dressed and heading back out into the resort. The combination of the deep pressure massage and exfoliating scrub left our skin incredibly soft, and we were genuinely impressed by how much our skin was glowing afterward.
It is one of those treatments that feels like it delivers both the relaxation you want from a spa day and a noticeable physical result. If you are only booking one treatment during a shorter stay, this would be our pick.

Spending Time at the Spa
You do not need to have a treatment booked to enjoy the spa experience. We spent plenty of time moving between the infinity pool, sauna, and steam room, which became an easy part of our daily routine.
Our one wish? We really wish Miraval Austin had a cold plunge. With a sauna and steam room already in place, having a cold plunge would have completed the circuit and made the wellness facilities feel even more comprehensive, especially in the Texas heat.
The other thing to know is that spa treatments can book up quickly. If there is a particular treatment you want, especially something like the Ginger Healer, we would not wait until you arrive to see what is available. The same goes for popular private sessions and classes. The earlier you can build out your schedule, the better.
Dining at Miraval Austin
There is one dining outlet at Miraval Austin, and food is a major part of the Miraval experience, and the approach is exactly what you would expect from a wellness resort: light, fresh, healthy, and thoughtfully prepared without feeling like you are being put on a restrictive diet.
The menu takes familiar dishes and gives them a healthier spin, and calories are listed throughout the menus.
While the menu is constantly changing, you can view a sample menu on their website.
One thing we would tell first-time guests is not to be surprised by the portion sizes. The servings are intentionally smaller, and the team encourages you to order multiple dishes if you want more food. Take them up on that. We found that ordering a few things to share was actually one of the best ways to experience the menu, and you never feel like you have to choose just one entrée.
A few of our favorites were the Nest Burger, avocado toast, and ginger smoothie.
And because meals are included, there is no need to spend your trip calculating what each meal costs or worrying about whether you are getting enough value out of the dining program. You can order what sounds good, try something new, and move on with your day.
Pro Tip: Stock Up on Snacks
There is no 24/7 dining at Miraval Austin, so if you tend to get hungry late at night or have an early morning class before the café opens, we recommend grabbing a few snacks from the café and keeping them in your room fridge.
It is a small thing, but having something on hand makes those early mornings and late nights much easier. This is especially helpful if you have an early class on your schedule and do not want to wait for breakfast.
The Rooms at Miraval Austin
The accommodations at Miraval Austin feel much more like a traditional luxury resort than you might expect from a wellness-focused property. After spending most of the day in yoga classes, meditation sessions, the spa, or sitting by the pool, it is nice to come back to a room that feels comfortable and polished rather than overly clinical or minimalist.
We stayed in a Dreamcatcher Queen Room during our visit, and overall, we had no complaints. The rooms are designed to be calming and comfortable, with the kind of amenities you would expect from an upscale resort. More importantly, they give you a quiet place to retreat when you actually want to be alone, which becomes especially valuable after a full day of programming and socializing.
And we have to mention the beds because, out of every luxury hotel we have stayed at, Miraval has some of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. That was true at both Miraval Austin and Miraval Arizona, which makes us think it is less about getting lucky with one particular room and more about something Miraval has consistently gotten right. After a full day of classes and wellness treatments, getting into that bed at night was one of the best parts of the day.
One thing we appreciated is that the rooms do not try too hard to make wellness the aesthetic. Miraval’s wellness philosophy is woven into the experience itself, rather than turning every room into a meditation studio. You can come back after a class, shower, change into pajamas, and simply relax.
Which Room Should You Book?
Miraval Austin has several accommodation categories, ranging from standard rooms to larger suites. The right choice depends largely on how much time you plan to spend in your room and whether you are traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends.
For most guests, we do not think you need to splurge on the highest room category simply because you are staying at a luxury wellness resort. You are likely to spend much more of your time at classes, the spa, the pool, restaurants, or somewhere else around the property.
That said, if you are planning a longer stay, traveling as a couple, or simply value having more space to spread out between activities, the larger accommodations can make sense.
The biggest thing we would consider when choosing a room is location rather than size. Miraval Austin is a spread-out property, and your room’s position can make a difference in how much walking you do throughout the day. If you have mobility concerns, are booking a packed schedule, or simply do not want to spend your mornings trekking across the resort, it is worth asking your advisor or the resort team about the location of your room before arrival.
For everyone else, we actually liked the walking. Moving between your room, meals, classes, and the spa becomes part of the rhythm of the stay, and it gives you a natural break between activities.
Where We Would Prioritize the Budget
The rooms at Miraval Austin are comfortable and polished, but the experiences are ultimately what make the property distinctive. For most travelers, we would prioritize the room category that provides the space and comfort you need, then put additional budget toward a spa treatment, private wellness session, or another experience you are particularly excited about.
You will likely spend much more of your stay enjoying the classes, spa, pools, dining, and outdoor spaces than sitting in your room, which is exactly how Miraval is designed to be experienced.
Miraval Austin vs. Arizona vs. Berkshires vs. The Red Sea
Miraval now has four destinations, and while the philosophy is consistent across all of them, the sense of place is very different. Having personally stayed at both Austin and Arizona, we can speak most directly to those two. For the Berkshires and The Red Sea, the biggest differences come down to the setting, seasonality, accommodations, and the experiences that are unique to each destination.
The easiest way to think about it is that Miraval is the constant, while the destination changes the feeling of the retreat.
Miraval Arizona: The Original Desert Retreat
Miraval Arizona is where the brand began in 1995, outside Tucson in the Sonoran Desert. It remains the destination that feels most distinctly like a traditional destination wellness retreat to us.
The desert is a major part of the experience. Instead of looking out over a lake or through New England forests, you are surrounded by mountains, cacti, and the expansive Sonoran landscape. That sense of place is a big reason Arizona felt more like a true vacation for us personally.
The programming also takes advantage of that environment, with hiking and outdoor experiences that feel particularly connected to the desert setting.
Miraval Austin: Hill Country Wellness
Miraval Austin brings the same basic Miraval philosophy to the Texas Hill Country. The 220-acre property overlooks Lake Travis and the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, with trails, a farm, outdoor programming, two infinity pools, the Life in Balance Spa, and the Hill Country Challenge Course.
The landscape is greener and more familiar than Arizona, but it has its own appeal. There is something particularly nice about moving between the spa, yoga barn, pools, farm, and outdoor spaces while surrounded by Texas Hill Country.
Miraval Berkshires: The Seasonal New England Retreat
Miraval Berkshires feels like the most distinctly seasonal of the four destinations.
Located in Lenox, Massachusetts, the property sits on 380 acres designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and includes the historic Wyndhurst Mansion, dating to 1894. The resort leans heavily into its New England setting, with programming and experiences designed around the changing seasons.
In the fall, the changing leaves become part of the experience. In winter, the landscape turns into a snowy retreat, while spring and summer bring hiking, gardens, and other outdoor programming. Miraval specifically positions the property as a year-round destination, with indoor passageways connecting much of the campus so guests can move around comfortably during colder weather.
There are also experiences here that are particularly distinctive to the location. Miraval Berkshires is currently the only Miraval property with an 18-hole golf course, and its programming includes experiences such as hiking, equine activities, pottery, farm and garden experiences, and seasonal outdoor adventures.
The accommodation experience is also different. The historic Wyndhurst Mansion adds a sense of place that you simply do not get at Austin or Arizona, making the Berkshires particularly interesting if you want your wellness trip to have more of a historic New England character.
Miraval The Red Sea: The International Beachfront Escape
The newest Miraval destination is also the biggest departure from the three U.S. properties.
Miraval The Red Sea opened on Shura Island in Saudi Arabia in May 2026, becoming the brand’s first destination outside the United States. It is an adults-only, all-inclusive retreat set along approximately three million square feet of coastline, with 180 rooms and suites, including 20 beachfront villas.
Instead of desert mountains, Hill Country, or New England forests, the setting here is the Red Sea itself. The resort is surrounded by beaches and mangroves, with accommodations designed around sea views and beachfront access.
The spa is also significantly larger than what you will find at the U.S. properties. Miraval’s current information lists 39 treatment rooms, a traditional hammam, hydrotherapy, sensory showers, and quiet lounges. The resort also has a Serenity Center, Body Mindfulness Center, Challenge Course, and a range of wellness and outdoor programming.
There is a stronger sense of destination luxury here, too. The 20 beachfront villas have private pools, full kitchens, outdoor spaces, and multiple bedroom configurations, making them particularly suited to longer stays or groups. Standard rooms and suites are also available, including beachfront categories.
Current experiences include beach walks, desert stargazing, heritage storytelling, gardening, meditation, creative arts, and other activities that connect Miraval’s wellness philosophy with Saudi culture and the surrounding environment.
For someone looking for the most international version of Miraval, this is clearly the outlier.
How We Would Think About the Four Destinations
| Miraval Resort | Setting | Best For / What Makes It Different |
| Miraval Arizona | Sonoran Desert | The original Miraval, dramatic desert landscape, strong sense of escape |
| Miraval Austin | Texas Hill Country & Lake Travis | Easy access, Hill Country setting, farm and outdoor programming |
| Miraval Berkshires | New England countryside | Four-season experience, historic Wyndhurst Mansion, hiking and golf |
| Miraval The Red Sea | Red Sea coastline & mangroves | International destination, beachfront setting, villas, larger spa and Saudi-inspired experiences |
All four resorts have the same underlying Miraval philosophy: wellness programming, mindfulness, movement, spa experiences, nourishing food, and an intentional approach to disconnecting. But the destination determines what surrounds that experience.
Who Is Miraval Austin Best For?
Miraval Austin works for a surprisingly wide range of travelers, but the experience is particularly well suited to people who want to slow down without having to completely figure out how to do that themselves.
You can arrive with no wellness experience whatsoever and find plenty of approachable classes, or you can build a packed schedule around fitness, nutrition, meditation, and more specialized programming. The important part is that there is no expectation that you already live a particularly “wellness-focused” lifestyle.
Girls’ Trips
There is something especially fun about experiencing Miraval with someone you know. You can take a class together, compare notes afterward, talk about something you learned during a nutrition consultation, and then sit down over dinner and debrief about the entire experience.
It also gives you the freedom to split up during the day. You do not have to attend every class together, and there is no pressure to spend every minute side by side. You can each book your own spa treatments or classes, then meet back up for lunch, dinner, or time at the pool.
Couples
Miraval Austin also works well for couples, particularly if you want a trip that feels productive without being overly structured.
You can take classes together, book spa treatments, spend time at the pool, or simply use the property as a place to disconnect from work and everyday responsibilities. At the same time, there is enough programming that you can easily have your own schedules for part of the day and meet back up later.
Solo Travelers
Miraval has always been particularly well suited to solo travel because you never have to figure out what to do with yourself.
The activity calendar gives you a built-in structure if you want it, and the classes make it easy to interact with other guests without having to be particularly social. You can also spend an entire afternoon alone at the spa or pool without feeling like you are missing something.
Wellness-Curious First-Timers
You do not need to be someone who meditates every morning, attends yoga classes five times a week, or knows what half the terminology on the activity calendar means.
There are gentle movement classes, more challenging fitness options, nutrition programming, meditation, creative activities, outdoor experiences, and spa treatments. You can try something completely outside your normal routine without committing to an entire retreat built around one particular discipline.
And there is no requirement to participate in everything. You can take one yoga class, get a massage, eat lunch, sit by the pool, and call it a successful day.
Corporate Retreats and Small Groups
Miraval Austin can also be a compelling choice for corporate retreats and smaller team offsites, particularly for companies looking to incorporate wellness, connection, and shared experiences into the trip. The extensive programming makes it easy to balance group activities with personal time, whether that means meditation and movement classes, nutrition experiences, outdoor activities, or simply time to recharge.
For companies considering a group experience, our guide to planning a luxury corporate retreat or incentive trip provides a deeper look at choosing the right destination, building the itinerary, budgeting, and creating a retreat that supports the goals of the organization.
Locals Looking for a Wellness Day
This is where we think Miraval Austin is particularly interesting for people who already live in the area.
Because we are only about 15 minutes away, we do not necessarily need the overnight escape. After experiencing the resort, we could easily see ourselves booking a day pass, spending the day at the spa, taking a couple of classes, having lunch, using the pools and wellness facilities, and then going home to sleep in our own bed.
Availability, pricing, and exactly what is included with a day pass can change, so we would confirm the current offering before planning around it. But for locals, it is worth asking about rather than assuming a multi-night stay is the only way to experience Miraval.
Who Is Miraval Austin Not Designed For?
Miraval is intentionally different from a traditional luxury resort, which is an important distinction when deciding whether it is the right fit.
Travelers whose priorities are nightlife, elaborate dining experiences, a lively social scene, or a completely traditional resort vacation may be happier elsewhere. Miraval is at its best for travelers who genuinely want to slow down, explore wellness, try new experiences, and step away from their normal routine for a few days.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Miraval Austin?
Miraval Austin is a year-round wellness retreat, but when you visit can make a meaningful difference in how much of the property you are able to enjoy. The spa, indoor classes, dining, pools, and wellness programming are available regardless of the season, but a significant portion of the experience takes place outdoors.
We visited in July, and while the heat did not prevent us from having a great stay, it definitely influenced our schedule. There were activities we would have loved to do but simply did not feel like spending time outside for in the middle of a Texas summer.
October Through May: Our Preferred Time for Outdoor Programming
If you want to take advantage of as much of Miraval Austin as possible, we would personally look toward the cooler months, particularly October through May.
This is when the Hill Country setting is most enjoyable for spending extended periods outdoors. Hiking, the farm, the challenge course, lake activities, and other outdoor programming are much easier to appreciate when you are not dealing with the intensity of a Texas summer.
Summer: Still Enjoyable, But Plan Around the Heat
Summer is not necessarily a reason to avoid Miraval Austin, but you should go into it knowing that the Texas heat is going to influence your experience.
We visited in July and quickly learned that we did not want to spend hours outside in the middle of the day. That meant prioritizing indoor classes, the spa, the pool, and other experiences that allowed us to stay comfortable.
If you visit in the summer, we would build your schedule with some flexibility. Book the classes and treatments you really want, but leave room to move outdoor activities around based on the weather.
Winter: A Different Kind of Wellness Escape
Winter can also be a great time for a Miraval stay, particularly if your priority is the spa, classes, wellness programming, and simply getting away for a few days.
The Austin climate means you are not dealing with the kind of winter conditions you would experience at Miraval Berkshires, so outdoor activities can still be possible depending on the day. But cooler temperatures can make the experience feel particularly conducive to slowing down, spending time in the spa, and settling into a more relaxed schedule.
How Long Should You Stay?
For a first Miraval Austin visit, we think two to three nights is a good starting point.
That gives you enough time to settle into the property, try several classes, book a spa treatment or private session, enjoy the dining experience, and still have some unstructured time.
If you stay for only one night, it can be difficult not to feel like you are rushing. We learned that firsthand when we tried to fit too much into our first day. Miraval has so much programming that it is tempting to schedule every available hour, but that is not really the point.
If you have more time, three to four nights gives you a better opportunity to slow down and explore some of the experiences you might otherwise skip.
And if you are local to Austin, we think there is a strong argument for approaching the property differently altogether. Rather than trying to turn every visit into a traditional vacation, a day pass could allow you to come for the spa, classes, pool, and dining, then return home that evening.
What to Pack for Miraval Austin
Packing for Miraval Austin is about as easy as it gets. You do not need a separate wardrobe for dinner, and after the first few hours, you will probably realize that almost everyone is wearing some variation of workout clothes.
Our biggest packing tip is simple: wear athleisure the entire trip.
Leggings, workout sets, comfortable shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sneakers, and sandals are all perfectly appropriate. Nobody is dressing up for dinner, and there is no need to bring a resort wardrobe just because you are staying at a luxury property.
What We Would Actually Bring
For a typical two- to three-night stay, we would pack:
- Several workout outfits so you always have something clean and dry for classes
- Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers
- Sandals or slides for the pool and spa
- A swimsuit
- A lightweight layer for cooler mornings or indoor spaces
- Comfortable pajamas
- A hat and sunglasses, particularly in the warmer months
- Sunscreen
A refillable water bottle and tote are provided to you during check-in to utilize during your stay, and to take home with you after.
If you plan to participate in outdoor activities, bring shoes and clothing that you do not mind getting dusty or dirty. This is particularly relevant for experiences such as hiking, the challenge course, or spending time at the farm.
Booking Miraval Austin: What to Reserve Before You Arrive
If there is one thing we would do differently on a future Miraval Austin stay, it would be to plan the schedule earlier.
The resort makes it easy to customize your experience, but that also means the most popular classes, spa treatments, and private sessions can fill up quickly. You do not want to arrive thinking you will figure everything out once you get there, only to discover that the treatment or class you had your heart set on is already full.
Book Your Spa Treatments Early
If you know you want a particular spa treatment, book it before arrival. Spa appointments are limited by the number of treatment rooms and therapists available, so the most popular treatments and times can disappear quickly.
The same applies to private wellness consultations. These are a different experience from the complimentary group programming and can be some of the most personalized parts of a Miraval stay.
Look Through the Activity Calendar Before Your Trip
The complimentary activity calendar is extensive, and we recommend looking through it before you arrive rather than waiting until your first morning. There are enough options that you will inevitably have to make choices. Yoga, meditation, fitness, nutrition, creative activities, outdoor experiences, and other wellness programming can quickly fill your day.
Our biggest piece of advice is to identify the experiences you absolutely want to do, then build around those. Do not try to schedule every interesting class simply because it is included.
Private Sessions: One Thing We Would Change
The online pre-booking system for private sessions was probably our biggest frustration with the booking process.
The system displays a number of sessions that appear to be available, only to find that many of them are not actually bookable. Finding an opening took considerably longer than it should have, particularly when we were trying to coordinate schedules.
Our recommendation is to start looking early and do not assume that the online calendar tells the entire story. If you know there is a particular private experience you want, it can be worth having your travel advisor or the resort team help you determine what is actually available.
What We Would Book for a Two- to Three-Night Stay
If we were planning our ideal Miraval Austin itinerary again, we would keep it intentionally simple.
We would book:
- A spa treatment
- One private wellness consultation
- Two to three complimentary classes or experiences per day
- One more challenging movement or yoga class
- A meditation experience
- A cooking class
- The farm tour and challenge course if visiting during cooler weather
- Plenty of completely unscheduled time
Why We Recommend Booking Through a Travel Advisor
Miraval is part of Hyatt, and eligible reservations can be booked with Hyatt Privé benefits through participating advisors. Exact benefits and inclusions can change, so we recommend confirming the current offer when booking.
For a resort like Miraval, the value of using an advisor is not necessarily just the reservation itself. The more useful part is having someone help you think through the stay before you arrive.
There are a lot of moving pieces: room category, airport transfers, spa appointments, private sessions, complimentary classes, dining, and the amount of free time you actually need. We would rather have someone help build a realistic schedule than arrive with a calendar packed from morning until night.
Miraval Austin vs. Other Texas Hill Country Wellness Resorts
Miraval Austin is not operating in a vacuum. The Texas Hill Country is quickly becoming one of the country’s most interesting luxury wellness and resort destinations, with several major hospitality brands either already established in the region or preparing to enter it.
For now, the most direct comparison is Canyon Ranch Austin. Looking a little further ahead, Auberge Resorts Collection and Aman are also bringing very different interpretations of luxury wellness and nature-focused hospitality to the Hill Country.
That makes Miraval Austin particularly interesting. It is already established, has a well-defined wellness philosophy, and has had time to develop a very specific approach to programming and guest experience. But the competitive landscape around it is about to become considerably more crowded.
Miraval Austin vs. Canyon Ranch Austin
Canyon Ranch Austin is probably the most direct comparison because both properties are purpose-built wellness resorts in the Texas Hill Country, both include extensive programming and dining, and both are designed around the idea of spending several days focusing on your health and well-being.
Canyon Ranch Austin is scheduled to open October 15, 2026, on more than 600 acres in Spicewood overlooking Lake Travis. The resort is currently accepting reservations and will offer more than 35 daily activities, all-inclusive dining, a 27,000-square-foot fitness facility called The Barn, pools and aquatic facilities, outdoor adventures, and a large spa. It will also introduce on-property concierge integrative health and wellness services.
Canyon Ranch has historically been more deeply rooted in integrative health, fitness, medical wellness, and expert-led programming, and its Austin property is continuing that approach with dedicated health and performance facilities and concierge integrative health services.
The physical settings will also be different even though both are in the Hill Country and both overlook Lake Travis. Miraval Austin sits on approximately 220 acres, while Canyon Ranch Austin will occupy more than 600 acres further outside of Austin.
If you want the established Miraval format, the device-free culture, a huge variety of classes, and a wellness retreat that allows you to dip into different areas of wellness without making the trip feel overly clinical, Miraval Austin is the experience we know firsthand.
If you are particularly interested in health assessments, performance, integrative health, fitness, and a larger ranch setting, Canyon Ranch Austin will be a very interesting new option once it opens.
And because Canyon Ranch has not yet welcomed its first guests, we would wait to make any firsthand comparison until there is an opportunity to actually experience the property.
Miraval Austin vs. Auberge at Mirasol Springs
Mirasol Springs is a 1,400-acre conservation development near the Pedernales River that will include an approximately 71-room Auberge Collection hotel, resort cottages, homesites, a farm, and a University of Texas biodiversity field station. The Inn is designed to be intentionally low-density, with the buildings integrated into the surrounding landscape.
The wellness component is important, but Mirasol Springs is not being positioned as a Miraval-style dedicated wellness retreat. The project is much more centered around nature, conservation, farming, and a sense of place, with the farm at the heart of the property and a planned spa and restaurant.
Mirasol Springs is currently targeting construction in 2027, with the hotel expected to follow the broader development timeline.
In other words, this is less likely to feel like choosing between two versions of the same vacation. Miraval is specifically designed around wellness programming and personal reset, while Mirasol Springs is being conceived as a low-density, conservation-focused luxury retreat where the landscape and farm are central to the experience.
Miraval Austin vs. Amansanu
Then there is Aman.
Aman announced Amansanu in April 2026 as its first ranch-style resort, set somewhere in the Texas Hill Country approximately 90 minutes northwest of Austin. The exact location has not been publicly disclosed, and Aman has not announced an official opening date.
Amansanu will include a main lodge, multiple dining concepts, an Aman Spa and Wellness Center along a natural creek, hiking trails, racquet sports courts, and Aman’s first fully serviced stables. The project will also include a limited number of Aman-branded residences on large private plots.
This will be a very different type of luxury experience from Miraval.
Miraval is intentionally communal. You see the same guests throughout the day, attend classes together, sit around the pool, and participate in group experiences. The device-free environment reinforces that feeling of being present with the people around you.
Amansanu, based on what has been announced so far, appears to be taking the opposite approach toward privacy and exclusivity, with standalone pavilions, large residential sites, a secluded ranch setting, and an Aman Spa integrated into the landscape.
It is also too early to make a true guest-experience comparison. Amansanu has not opened, and many of the details that ultimately determine how a property feels, from service to programming to dining, will only become clear once guests can experience it.
The Texas Hill Country Is About to Become a Major Wellness Destination
What is particularly interesting is that these properties are not simply adding more luxury hotels to Austin. They represent several different interpretations of what a wellness-oriented luxury escape can look like.
Miraval Austin is centered around structured wellness programming, personal growth, movement, mindfulness, spa treatments, and intentional disconnection.
Canyon Ranch Austin is bringing a more comprehensive health, performance, fitness, and integrative wellness model to a much larger Hill Country setting.
Mirasol Springs and Auberge are taking a more nature- and conservation-focused approach, with a farm, biodiversity research, low-density development, and a boutique hotel at the center.
Amansanu will bring Aman’s signature privacy and highly residential approach to a ranch setting, with a creekside spa, hiking, equestrian facilities, and standalone accommodations.
For travelers, that is a good thing. It means the Texas Hill Country is developing into a destination where you will eventually be able to choose between very different interpretations of a luxury wellness getaway rather than simply choosing between similar resorts.
For now, Miraval Austin has the advantage of being an established experience that we can actually speak to firsthand. But we are very interested to see how the property fits into this much more competitive Hill Country landscape over the next few years.
Miraval Austin FAQs
Is Miraval Austin all-inclusive?
Yes. Miraval Austin is designed as an all-inclusive wellness resort, with accommodations, meals, snacks, and a substantial schedule of complimentary wellness classes and activities included in the nightly rate. Spa treatments, private sessions, and certain specialty experiences cost extra, although eligible experiences may be covered in part by the resort credit associated with your stay.
Because inclusions and resort credit can change, we recommend confirming the current details when booking.
How many nights should you stay at Miraval Austin?
For a first visit, we recommend two to three nights. That gives you enough time to settle in, experience several classes, book a spa treatment or private session, and still have some unstructured time.
If you try to fit everything into one night, you will probably spend more time looking at the clock than relaxing.
What should you wear at Miraval Austin?
Athleisure is completely appropriate throughout the resort. Workout clothes, leggings, shorts, T-shirts, sneakers, sandals, and comfortable layers are what you will see most guests wearing.
How many classes should you take at Miraval Austin?
Our sweet spot was two to three classes or experiences per day.
There is enough programming available to fill virtually every hour, but that does not mean you should. We learned this the hard way on our first day when we scheduled too much and ended up rushing from one activity to another.
Leave room for the pool, spa, meals, walking around the property, and doing absolutely nothing.
Is Miraval Austin good for a girls’ trip?
Yes. We particularly enjoyed experiencing Miraval with a girlfriend because we could take classes together, talk about what we learned, and debrief over meals.
You also do not have to spend the entire trip together. It is easy to split up for different classes or spa treatments and meet back up later.
Is Miraval Austin good for couples?
Yes. Couples can take classes together, book spa treatments, enjoy the pools and dining, or create separate schedules for part of the day. If you are planning a romantic wellness escape, our guide to the 10 Best Wellness Resorts for Honeymoons and Anniversaries is also a helpful resource for comparing Miraval with other properties designed for couples.
Can you go to Miraval Austin for the day?
Miraval Austin offers day access options, although availability, pricing, and inclusions can change. If you live nearby, we think it is worth asking about.
As someone who lives close to the resort, a day visit is actually how we would approach our next Austin Miraval experience. We would spend the day taking a couple of classes, enjoying the spa and facilities, having lunch, and then go home rather than staying overnight.
How far is Miraval Austin from the airport?
Miraval Austin is approximately 40 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The resort offers complimentary airport transportation, which makes it particularly convenient for travelers flying into Austin.
You do not need to rent a car for a Miraval stay.
Is Miraval Austin adults-only?
Miraval is designed as an adult wellness retreat. Because age policies can change, we recommend confirming the current minimum age requirement when booking.
Does Miraval Austin have a cold plunge?
Not during our stay. The property has an infinity pool, sauna, and steam room, but we wished there were also a cold plunge.
For us, adding one would have made the existing wellness facilities feel much more complete.
Is Miraval Austin better than Miraval Arizona?
We would not describe one as universally better than the other. They offer the same core Miraval philosophy but very different settings.
We personally prefer Arizona because we live near Austin and therefore get a stronger feeling of escape when we are surrounded by the Sonoran Desert. For someone flying into Austin, however, Miraval Austin can absolutely provide that same feeling of getting away.
The better fit depends largely on the type of destination you want.
