Four Seasons is set within the 483-acre Bahía Beach nature reserve on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast, while Dorado Beach offers the larger, more established resort experience and the distinctive service model of Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

Dorado Beach is an exceptional resort, but it is important to understand what kind of resort it is before booking. This isn’t a small boutique hotel where everything is a few steps from your room. The property is expansive, and golf carts are essential for getting around.

Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, the resort underwent a significant restoration and renovation. When we returned, it was clear that the property had used the rebuilding process as an opportunity to elevate the experience rather than simply recreate what had existed before.

Dorado Beach sits on Puerto Rico’s northern coast in the town of Dorado, approximately 26 miles from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan. The resort is roughly a 45-minute drive from the airport, depending on traffic.

If Mi Casa is important to your trip, reserve in advance. It is also open to non-resort guests, so availability can be competitive.

Encanto Beach Club

Encanto offers a more relaxed beachfront setting and is well suited to breakfast, lunch, and casual meals throughout the day.

For families, this is particularly convenient because the atmosphere is considerably more relaxed than a formal dinner.

Positivo Sand Bar

For a casual lunch, afternoon drink, or sunset, Positivo Sand Bar offers the kind of beachfront setting you want from a Caribbean resort.

It is the place to slow down, stay in your swimsuit, and enjoy the setting rather than making a meal into an occasion.

COA

COA is another important part of the dining program, with an open-fire culinary concept and an extensive wine collection. The restaurant currently lists more than 670 wine labels and has received a Wine Spectator 2024 Best of Award of Excellence.

The adjacent COA Lounge also offers ocean and sunset views, with a cocktail program focused on Puerto Rico’s rum heritage.
